anybody else have any idea why the front driveshaft would still be spinning with the hubs unlocked and in 2wd?

If your turning the cv's by hand it will. I just did that today too. Just to make sure my hubs were unlocking. Turn one side, both cv's and driveshaft should move, if not then there is something wrong inside the diff.

no, i mean when im driving, it does that. and im sure the hubs are unlocking because when the truck was in the air, i locked the hubs and spun the tires and the cvs and driveshaft spun. when i unlocked them, just the tire spun.

Ok man so they will free spin because there is nothing making them stay still when you spin the wheel by hand they stay still because the resistance in the drive train like the front differential but at 10 mph the vibration and resistance of the wheel over come that deferential resistance it happens all the time you're not hurting any thing its called free spin every four wheel drive dose it. Its a common misconception that the front doesn't spin a little in 2wd don't worry it happens if you don't believe me tie a string to the bolts on the CV flange at the differential and to something that doesnt move and it will keep it all from spinning for you

To me it sounds like something isn't shifting right in the t-case.

Trying to remember how that manual hub lock works.... I remember reading something in the 'warning section' of my swap kit for the premium hubs I put in... and it was something about getting the adjuster nut wrong or something??? can't remember, but I thought I remembered it saying "If too tight it will lock them to spinning with the wheels" and I have NO IDEA if it could then turn the driveshaft through the front diff if it thinks the CV's are locked in???

You used 4wd a lot... that's the only reason I was saying "Could it be the tcase?">> Maybe you shifted out and back into 2H but it did'n't actually come out?

Doesn't sound like it's the hubs so much if it's testing according to what the book says when off the ground, etc. Can you get it up on 4 jack stands and or 2 and a big jack in rear and see what kind of variations you get when putting the rear diff to work?(does anything engage up there unlike it's supposed to?, etc.?)

Sorry HB, just guessing, not my area..... (not that I really have an 'area', hahaha)... but I just wanna help, feel bad for ya man! Grrr! lol.

From: Bryan Tx,
I think that one of your hubs in not unlocking. Pull the 6 hub face bolts and remove the cover and dial. There is a splined paw that should come out with the hub face, it's attached with a spring. If it doesn't then there is your problem. When you turn the dial on your hubs all it does is push that paw in when you lock it and pull it out when you unlock. Sometimes that spring gets damaged or rusty and it doesn't pull the paw out. You can temporarily pull that paw out with your hand if your spring is damaged just to get the CV free, but next time you lock the hub in you will be back in the same boat.

Hey Rob, ..when putting these back together, ..... what do you think it was that I am remembering of "warning"?? Something about torquing that retainer or adjuster nut too tight? Anyway, just curious. What you said makes a LOT of sense.... looking at exploded view of the hubs right now on my desk.

Best wishes, Bo!

What rob said is very possible you may need better springs or the spring may not be correctly attached ether way like I said I am in reno until I move to Sacramento to go to school so if you want help let me know and we can get together

I'm not sure Mark, maybe something different between your Warn hubs and the Aisin's?

Either way HB, if that is your problem you can expect to have a very hard time finding a new spring. One of mine broke (that's how I know, lol) and I had to give up and buy a whole pair of used hubs off of Ebay. I only used 1 piece of one hub so I do have a complete spare if you want to buy one.
