QUESTION : Why doesnt anybody buy from lowrangeoffroad.com ??? seems to me as though their pricing is very competitive and the tech guys there (for me anyways) have been very very helpful...any particular reasoning behind that??
#22
I would have to say becouse Ive never heard of them is the reason I havnt checked them out but I will now, thanks for the heads up. do they specialize in yotas or just general off road? I guess I will figure that out when I look hu
#23
ya man, they specialize in yota and suzuki parts. a buddy of mine that had a samurai introduced me to them. really nice guys and really good pricing. I figured that was the reason nobody had heard of them. When you order parts from them, they will ship you the part, a decal or two and some business cards...i guess they use word of mouth...
#25
WTH? That is insane..... I could take it to any of 3 places in L.A.(one main one that's more preferred by all the shops) and have it back next day. Heck, you could probably ship it here and have it back sooner than that...... If it wasn't so much to ship, might be worth it! lol. Man, sorry to hear that. You sure you've checked them ALL?
#26
I know dude, its ridiculous. And ya, I have checked 2 of 3 places, but have heard nothing but bad from the third shop...the other two say $125, but like I said, darn near a month to have it out...ridiculous....
#27
Yeah, also on the "reputation" thing... grrrrr, ...I guess that's why they're so busy, eh? maybe they have all of Mexico, South America and North America sending all their cranks to them right now??????? ORRRRRR, ....maybe it's 2 guys that get more work than they can handle? I'd bet the latter, lol.
#28
well... and thats the really ridiculous thing. I called this place call Hartmann's Machining here in town, asked when they could turn a crank for me, they said two weeks at first then asked what it was in. I told them a toyota and they said "oh, these guys dont really like automotive, might be 3-4 weeks"....couldnt believe it. Completely unprofessional. All the machine shops around here stay busy with heavy duty trucks and oilfield stuff...sucks being low man on the totem pole...big time...

SUCCESS!!!! Just found another machine shop in town that I had never heard of before, only $80 to turn the crank and they can have it done sometime next week...which is perfect cuz I wont have any of my parts till then !!!! WOO HOO.

Alright guys, started cleaning my block up a bit tonight (prepping for paint) and noticed something I dont like. Check out these pics of the cylinders (i know theyre tough to see), but you know that "carbon ring" that develops at the top of the cylinder between the top ring on the piston and top of the cylinder. I cleaned it off tonight and found there is a decent sized groove (dont have a micrometer, or i'd measure it), but its deep enough you can catch your fingernail on it easily. Give me some opinions...should I punch it out??? Let me know what ya'll think.

Ive also got some pics of one of my main bearings and a crank journal (#4)...dont know if you can tell very well...but the grooves on the crank are also deep enough you could catch a fingernail (if they were sharper)

Anyways, crank will be pulled soon and sent off for machining, just need someone to tell me about the cylinders and tell me what yall think I should do. Thanks guys.

I would bore it out for sure. The bores are probably tapered and out of round.
As for the injectors stock 22re's are black. The turbo ones are pinkish-brown.
The turbo block will have a hole on the drivers side for the oil return line. 10-12 inches above that will be a high pressure oil line hole for a banjo fitting.
Also the turbo ecu retards the timing for boost. You'll want to run a non-turbo ecu for any real power without the turbo.

Any time. I have learned so much with my build. I've built 4 other Yota's before this one. I have about 20k into it including buying it. And maybe 250 hours. I still need to put in a new power steering pump, Install my ARP head studs and put some rear springs in the front. It always costs more than you plan but in the end it's so worth it!!

Alright guys, got my block stripped down to nothing and ready to steam clean, blow dry and send off to machine shop to have my block punched out (dont know how much yet, gonna let the machine shop tell me what they think) and to have my crank turned (also dont know how much). Here are some items I found when disassembling :
oil cooler housing o-ring rolled, was leaking there when pulled :

looks like at one point in time, the timing chain got into the cover and head, someone patched it.

Also found a fair chunk of the timing cover broken internally around where the crank hole is :

Also think I found the cause of my oil problems which likely spun my other two bearings. Found lots of brass shavings in the oil pickup tube screen and oil cooler, which of course is where they should be as thats prefiltered oil. But, at the entry to the oil pump, I found a "sludge" which was very very gritty. I also took the liberty of spinning the oil pump gear around and it was sticking in places (not spinning smoothly) Anyways, hopefully with all the cleaning and new parts, this thing will be ready for the races. Also taking my time cleaning and painting all the misc components that I want painted. When I get block back from machine shop, ill paint it, I think chevy orange...cant think of another cool color to do it in...probably do a orange/black combo. Anyways, will update later when I have more to say.

Good thing you dug a lil deeper, eh?
Oil cooler? Oh, yes, ...it's a 22RET, right? I get lost in the 200 threads I'm trying to follow, hahaha... You're NOT using the turbo kit, right? Just running it as a 22RE? (If I'm wrong, then you see what I mean, hahaha).
