Very nice build. Simular to mine, question though. What are your thoughts about fitting 37's with 8 inch rim on there? Do you think you would have to do major trimming? That is what I am running right now, but have not taken it off road yet

i could fit 37s on it as it is. the HD springs up front give me plenty of clearance (at least until they settle). the rear rubs now with 35s, but i haven't trimmed yet. plus my axle is at least 2" back from stock, and it only rubs on the rear part of the quarter panel. if my rear axle was closer to stock position, maybe an inch back, i'm sure i would clear just fine. i'm actually contemplating going to 37s. if these front springs don't come down an inch or two i just might...

Mike, I cut off the shims from my axle if you want to try them out. With my Marlin springs, they caused interferance with the tie rod, but if your TG packs aren't as thick, they might work for you. Apparently Ganoid was able to fit shims in there without interferance, so it may be worth a try.

I haven't noticed any death wobble yet with mine. Aside from a little bump steer and lack of shocks, it drives smooth. Based on the feedback at the steering wheel, I suspect it has a little more caster than it needs (takes some effort to keep from recentering). I'm running 4" Marlin USA springs.

What's your shackle angle looking like with the new springs?

i might have to do that... not sure if they'll clear though. the HD springs are 7-leaf. glad to hear you aren't getting death wobble. it was driving me crazy when i had it. just needed to tighten things up a bit though. the shackles are about 15-20* back right now... but the springs haven't settled really, so i'm hoping they'll go back to ~30-35* eventually. we'll see though...

well, a little update...

the HDs are great so far. they've settled a little, but not much. sitting a little tall still, especially since the rear has come down a bit. i still need to take it out and see if they break in more. the rear bumper is trimmed and back on, and the rear quarters are cut. i'll need to patch up the holes ASAP. wheelbase is around 109" now. i have a R150 on the way, so the auto will be gone. duals are next, so it's time to start saving up... i have a few little things to finish up too, like shock mounts and bumper gussets. i'll post pics tomorrow of the cut rear, and as i make progress on the other projects.

No joke! That's some amazing flex. Your rig rocks. Have you scored it on a ramp?

i haven't scored it yet... but someday i'd like to.

the car is for Poly's open house this weekend. every year our club gets a car (free) and crushes it in the parade and booth. so we did a little testing this past weekend. i'll have some pics of the actual parade next week.

What are the dimensions of the square tubing supporting the back of the bumper? I know the tailgate can make bumper support tricky, but I think you should add a little more support than that.

The A-pillar on that Saturn is hardcore.

Will the Goats be on campus Saturday morning? I'm going to be in town Wednesday night through Saturday.

i wanna say the square tubing is 1.25x1.25 or 1.5x1.5, but i know for sure it's .120 wall. i plan on bracing up both mounts in the future. i'm going to run a tube from the side tubes up to the side of the frame, and for these i might plate the rear of the frame and come off that.

we'll be on campus from 7AM until probably 5PM on saturday. defintiely stop by if you get a chance. oh, parade is at 9... should be the best part.

Cal Poly's Open House was yesterday, and our club ended up winning Best In Show overall, and Best Overall for the parade. Some pics...

and before everyone gets all uppity about the people hanging off rigs, it was allowed and everyone signed a waivor beforehand. we weren't stupid and wreckless about it.

LOL, that is awesome! I wish I could have been there for the parade. Looks like you guys had a good setup. Nothing like carnage at a dog and pony show. I finally got my waterpump and timing belt fixed so I can make a run one of these days, plus I need to get my two stickers that I paid so much $$ for.
