Did you see the cover 'runner in the December issue of Peterson's? That my friend is where you should be heading! Four tube doors and a chop top looks sick and you can almost mistake it for a 1st gen.

Looking really good. Can't wait to see it after the rear swap and the 37's. Did you ever get the longfields put in the front so you aren't snapping stockfields any more?

i have some pics of the d-shaft, but my computer is down at the moment. i'll see if i can upload them on my roomie's computer. as for the birf upgrade, i'll be ordering bellfields when i get paid in a couple days. oh, and i'll be sticking with the 35s for a while. either 37s or 40s once these wear out...

How much does that shaft hate you?
Low pinion, square and single cased. 4wd over 2MPH must be sweet.
That being said, I caught hell picking up a CV core to make a square trail spare front.

Arf... Makes me want to begin swaping my truck, but I've no money...
Why didn't you use your stock front driveshaft for the square mod? At least it's a CV...

Looking at this again, I am amazed.
You have 5" front springs with real shackles, right?
With as much axle wrap as I get up front, and my modest springs and shackles, I am worried about binding a dual case CV'd shaft.
I don't think you can put a CV on that though and still get enough travel. It is just too short.

the shaft kinda works. it's loud, vibrates a lot, and is definitely short. my truck is usually sitting about an inch off the bumpstops. if you look at the pics, it's probably a good 4" above (doing leaf swap still). i'd say it's only slightly worse than Marc's angle. next time i take it out i'll see if i can get some pics at droop. as far as i know, it doesn't bind up... the High Angle flange is pretty well clearanced. i'll eventually end up running a round tube shaft once i'm dual-cased, but that'll be a while.
David, a stock CV just didn't have the clearance i needed.
Clint, it's actually seemless 2" and seamed 2.5" due to certain reasons...
Adrian, i am running 5" Trail-Gear springs woth 6" eye-to-eye shackles. i'll be swapping in the TG HD springs once the rear swap is done. hopefully that'll help with my axle wrap. the regular 5" TG springs are just too damn soft, especially for a V6 rig.

Yeah, that is a lot more spring and shackle than I've got.
Travel in the CV's IFS to solid axle is pretty amazing. My front uses a goodly chunk of a stock solid axle CV. My rear is an IFS.
Any spring that flexes with a darn is going to wrap up there, being a steering axle isn't helping. This is even worse with a 3.4 and duals. I suppose that means links are only a matter of time. I doubt you will be pleased with anything stiffer for wrap.

I had a terrible angle as well using a modified 85 CV shaft with the TG 12" spline section (spin balanced). I took my truck into the local alignment shop and had them check the caster to see if I could rotate the axle forward raising the diff flange. The shop said I should be in the 1.5* range for caster and I was sitting at 5.5* with the TG 4" IFS elim kit. I added a 4* shim to roll the axle forward and reduce the caster this also improved my Drive shaft angle dramatically. I have no wobbles or any other goofy side affects due to caster and I have had my x-cab up to 95 Mph on the 35's in 2wd with the 1.5* caster setting. You can start to feel the front D-shaft once you get over 45-50 mph in 4wd but that only happens on mountain passes in the snow. I have no idea what the 5" springs do to the caster angle but I'm sure it can be improved.
