3VZE Power steering squeal

I've owned a 1990 (many years ago) and now a 1992 4runner with very low mileage and mint condition. The steering squealed on both trucks when the wheel is turned all the way left or right. I see posts that say "just don't turn it that far". That's not a fix!! Is the belt too loose? Is this common on 2nd gens? Is there an obvious simple fix? Thanks for any feedback.

Try replacing the idler pulley bearing for the power steering belt. IF you can't find the bearing alone, you'll be able to find the pulley with bearing already installed.

Make sure the belt is tensioned correctly. Also according to the FSM, the belt is fully broken in/stretched out after running for 5 minutes. I would let it run 5-10 min, then tension it to th final setting.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply. It only has 25k original miles and i just got it back from the dealer. Had the original timing belt and pump replaced. They said the belt is not original equipment and its too long. Which is odd....maybe it was showing age. Original owner must have had it replaced. Im going to replace and adjust the belt first. See if that fixes the issue.
