Hey all, I am sincerely ignorant about mechanics, but I wanted to ask some basic advice. I have an 87 22rte pickup. I've put a lot of work into it, and I'm quite attached, but the engine burns a ton of gas and the turbo gasket just blew for the second time. I'm planning on swapping to the straight 4cyl, but I'm not sure what the compatibility is between my current components (manifold, air-intake, whatnot) and what the 22re needs. I also was wondering if it is foolish to expect a great improvement in fuel efficiency. I get 15-18mpg now, but I've heard of 22re's getting 25-30, which would definitely justify the swap. Are the gear ratios different between the two engines? would love to hear any advice you folks may have.

 

They only get s tops or 22 mpg and less power than ur turbo motor

 

Get a aftermarket turbo add a little boost and enjoy just my opinion

 

Id trade ya a 22re for your 22rte.
