I picked up this yota about 6 months ago from a friend and just got around to messing with it. Originally it was not running with what was thought to be a bad fuel pump. Upon closer inspection I diagnosed it with very low compression on three of the cylinders. I yanked the engine and tore it down and brought it to the machine shop to have it spec'ed out for machine work. I ended up replacing parts with: re manufactured crankshaft with acl bearings, enginebldr.com rebuild kit .040 over bore, and a re manufactured cylinder head. This was my first engine build and I am feeling very good about it. Here is a few pics of it buttoned up!

looks like a good start, any more pics of the truck, and how far along are you on your rebuild?

 

I like the colors on the engine. I would have waited till I had that timing cover on before bolting down the head though. That head gasket part above the timing cover can be tricky as it is easily pinched and leaks oil like you wouldn't believe if it's damaged.

 

I followed the FSM when putting the head on and it requires a small bit of RTV at the two front corners of the head/block. I have to take the head bolts out because the motor is at TDC and the cam/rockers are not in the proper position as it sits... I will probably do the timing chain when I re-do this because i am also waiting on a set of keys for the crank. The rebuild is finished i just need to put the oil pickup/pan, do the timing chain, and start putting accessories/manifolds back on.

I realize what you are saying now. I will be taking the head off tomorrow and installing the timing cover first. I was wondering if I should be worried about the re-manufactured head I have regarding the clearance between it and the timing cover if, it has been shaved at all.

Plans for the truck are to take it down some trails in the forest down here in north Florida. Probably going to do a small suspension lift and some 31" or 33" MT's, nothing too crazy!

 

It has been a while since i have worked on the engine due to new projects but I am back to work on it!

Got the timing set up and am about to start bolting up accessories!

I Adjusted the valves, washed, sandblasted, painted, and installed the oil pan,throttle body, and a few brackets today.It's getting close to dropping in!

 

I got a few more things on the engine today, going to try to drop it in tomorrow.
