1987 Xtra Cab SR5 resurrection
Hey everyone! So I acquired this truck in a trade from a guy that's actually a member on this site and want to share what all I've been doing with it.
I've always wanted a Toyota 4x4 and, had this been any other truck, I would've beat the ˟˟˟˟ out of it for a while and then lost interest. But I saw something in this truck I could grow to really like; I thought it deserved better.
Here is the full imgur album that's being updated as I go but I'll toss some in here as well.
What I started with

First things's first

Bed lining the interior now then adding sound deadening before new carpet goes in

Goodbye junk bed!

I enlisted as a tow rig for a baja event. The guys in some of these rigs couldn't believe my little skeleton Yota was in charge of getting them to the pits... but it did every time

White led in the hvac, blue leds in the cluster

The same member that had the truck also had a tube bumper and roll bar available that I bought. The lightforce were given to me by a friend going full led. Got the bed locally for $200

New fenders slapped on (insides already primed/painted)

Sanded the bed down, did the finer body work, then had to see it on the truck!

It's coming together slowly!

Had the bumper powdercoated and slapped it on for kicks. Accidentally put the bumper's top holes on the frames lower ones, so it's sitting a little low. Obviously a quick fix when the time comes.

That's it for now but I'm always keeping busy on it.
30x9.50-15 Falken WildPeak ATs are on the way. Will be mounted once those wheels are looking better and the paint work is done.

You have done a great job of bringing this truck back from the dead. Looking forward to your build. I like seeing big projects like you have tackeled and what they turn out. Great Job!!!

Had to pull the fenders to get the quick release hinges on and mount/adjust the doors. Also got the new meat!

30x9.50-15 should be a good size for an otherwise stock truck. Loving the tread on the Falken Wildpeak AT

Nearing the end of my journey. Let reassembly begin.

I recently acquired a 87 4runner with no flooring what so ever.. you said you "sound deadened" the floor before you installed carpet. How or what did you put down before the carpet.. I was going to get a cheap thin layer of insulation then either vinyl or carpet flooring over it, however im doing the entire floor from under the dash to the back tailgate. . Any suggestions? Btw thanks for the motivation I admire what youve done to that truck

Thanks! I'd be happy to help.
After a few layers of bed liner, I put down some Fat Mat (see Dynamat and similar products). Basically cleaned the surface as best I could then used a heat gun to get the backing on the mat really sticky and more pliable.
That's it! Other members have used stuff from Lowe's or Home Depot. I just had this laying around from an old audio install.

Thanks a million! After a closer look just under the clutch pedal theres a small hole from rust :/ any recommendations on repairing that? I looked and felt around for any other rust damage and there is only that one small spot it rusted through... anyone ever repaired rust in floor??

Clean it up really well with a wire wheel or brush, then clean it with mineral spirits or some other acetone. Apply a rust treatment like POR 15 ( it's expensive but it's good) or another product. Next would be something along the lines of a fiberglass kit. I got mine at napa and it worked great. Three layers of fiberglass fabric fixed my cab hole perfectly.
Obviously if you have a friend that can weld and stuff like that, that would be a better alternative. But this method works!

Dude, great job!! I love a nice stock build.
I do like a nice off road truck, but cutting up and destroying these classic trucks on the trails makes me a little sad inside.
Anyway, super clean

The chrome cleaned up nicely. You have done a great job bringing this truck back. The little details take just as long as the big things but do make the difference. Great job all the way around.
