Looking good Todd. Been too dang cold here to do anything at the shop since Saturday.

From that one pic and what I can see it looks like the steering box is about right.

I used POR15 and Chassis black on the axle and all the components. I have been a fan a POR15 for a while now. It does best over a light coat of rust, but if cleaned and metal ready is applied properly it does good over clean metal also.

The chassis black on the other hand has been a love/hate relationship. Chassis black is so thick it is very hard to apply and have it look smooth the way POR15 goes on. But the color and coating it applies is awesome. I bought some of the POR15 solvent, and have been thinning it. Even to brush it on. And it seems to working well.

Tinman I think por-15 black is not UV resistant. You might want to look into it if your not going to put a top coat over top of the por. I think when I por-15 some spots on my truck the black turned yellowish in some spots that sat in the sun for a little bit.

Yeah man, I am top coating with their chassis black. The two together make a super hard coating. The chassis black is UV resistant. It is also super thick, loads of solids in the paint. If use it, get some of their solvent and thin it, even to brush it on.

quick question:

even though por15 fades, does it still protect? as in, is it functional besides the color loss?

Sounds like a good combo. Irab I think it still works like it should but it just changes color. I think por makes something you can put over the por-15 to make it uv resistant.

From: Bryan Tx,
You can top coat the POR 15 with just about anything. It has been awhile since I used POR 15, but I recall reading on the label that you are supposed to top coat it with the paint of your choice.

ok, so i can top-coat it. if i don't, and it does fade, will that be detrimental to the integrity of the paint or painted surface?

POR15 says that if it fades from UV, it still protects as well as normal. However, my experience has been that once it starts to fade from UV, it gets kind of chalky, and will turn your hand black with dust. To me that means it is coming off.

Personally I had good luck top coating POR15 with CarQuest brand flat black tractor paint. When the POR15 gets tacky to a light finger drag, spray the tractor paint and then follow the recoat directions on the tractor paint can. Color is real close to factory frame paint, and it is pretty hard also. Nice thing it is $3.50 a can.

You can get it in a gallon size, or rattle can.

No I don't sell tin, the name came form a friend that got my name wrong for about 6 months. When I told him what my name was, he said that I didn't have a heart because I let him go on so long. Then he started calling me Tin Man.

I got a good laugh out of that Slacker.

No pictures tonight but i got the frame plates for power steering box mounted, drilled and welded. Kind of a pain in the but that one is. It took a lot of mentoring from wabbit. And then getting comfortable in there to be able to get a good bead was also tough for me. They are not my best looking welds, but they are burned in good and hot. I will take some more pic tomorrow.

While the write up is awesome it is even better seeing it in person. I was in awe of this vehicle tonight (and the garage). Thanks again for the chassis! I will definatly stop by from time to time to check out the build first hand.

Right on man it was good to meet your guys. Hope the cab works out for you. You will have to keep me updated on when your are racing. My son and I will come out and give a look. Sounds like a good time. Also I am definitely interested Going to the ORV park with you guys in April. PM me anytime with the details.

Got a lot done tonight, no pictures but I have quite a few to upload this weekend.

Got the shock hoops welded on, the body lifted off the frame, and the top of the frame and body mounts stripped down. Going to wash it all tomorrow and hopefully paint it on Sunday. I am hoping to have the frame done, body mounted back up and the front suspension done by next weekend.

Also got a few things packed up to send to Wabfab for powder coating. And got rid of a few more of the old parts on Craigslist.

Can't wait to see the wife face when I tell her how much drive shafts are going to cost.
