Worse case scenario is you'll run rich.

Header looks very nice!! It should not be an issue running that short of a distance on an open header. Will be very loud though. haha

Yeah needless to say I know that I'm loud LOL. Did you have this same problem with yours? With the alignment issue I mean.

Nice runner bro! I need that rear bumper on my 85, too much backing into tree's after a few too many soda's
Liking the headers too, noticed increased HP at all??
Next on the list hi-steer? I just finished rebuilding my front axle with hi-steer, check out my build! 85 rock crawler build I think is the title..

I can't answer the direct bolt on question for ya. I cut the flange off the header and welded a small 3" flex pipe there then I always welded my pipe to the flex. I've done it that ya to eliminate the risk of having a leaky exhaust.

I haven't had a chance to enjoy the headers or see if there is any increased HP because I'm running them open right now due to a problem with exhaust alignment. Have to wait until Friday when I can get into the muffler shop and have him set me up with a new exhaust from the cat back.

I am not sure what kind of header I have but I did not have any type of alignment issues. Mine usually lines right up at the manifold and right at the collector.

Ahhh then you have a short header where as I have a long. Mine has no collector it is all once piece from the manifold to the CAT.

Well no longer do I sound like a chopper coming down the road LOL. Got my local muffler guy to hook me up and let me tell you I am all grins. The difference with this header is massive on the low end. The truck has so much more pep now I can't believe it. I can actually merge like a normal vehicle! Well almost.... That means today I can officially mark off number 8, 9, and 16 on my list.

8. Exhaust leak where collector meets manifold (Remove/Replace - Planning to replace with Doug Thorley header and down pipe).
9. CAT is original and is likely clogged and the cause of above leak. (Remove/Replace - Plan is to replace with test pipe).
16. Exhaust is rattling off and on (Remove/Replace - Already planning to replace headers and collector, may just do an entire new exhaust)

A couple of questions for you...

1) what cat and series flowmaster are those?

2) can you grab a vid for me? I've been thinking about replacing my so-old-the-tailpipe-is-rusted-through exhaust but I love how quiet stock is.

Thanks!

Hey man! Yeah sure no problem. The cat is a MagnaFlow, this one to be specific: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-23886

The muffler is a 40 series FlowMaster and it is all running off of Doug Thorley headers. I'd be happy to take a video tomorrow for you.

Sorry CamTom I know I promised you a video but the weather has been terrible and I didn't feel like getting wet. I will put one up as soon as it clears up.

On a completely separate note. I'd love to start a conversation about what it entails to swap out my DLX cluster with a SR5. As well as what it takes to install a Tach? Do I need to run additional wiring or is all the wiring for the SR5 back there I just simply have to hook it up?

No worries! I'll take it when I can get it, haha!

What's your description of the sound, compared to stock? Any droning?

I'm very happy with the sound. If you are looking for a silent alternative I would spend the extra 50 dollars and get the 50 series however. I enjoy hearing my truck and therefore I went with the 40. Weather should permit a video tomorrow and you should be able to see what I'm talking about.

Yep thats what mine is. I was referring to the collector at the end of the header where all the tubes come together at a flange that bolts to the CAT.

Anybody got any insight to my question about the SR5 cluster swap? I'm searching around but would love to hear from one of you guys if you have any clue. I'm also wondering about which aftermarket cam to pair with my header. I hear good things about the engnbldr, but once again I'm looking for advice from those who know.

Thanks for the video! Your setup sounds exactly what I like, audible yet quiet hahaha.

Wish I could help with the cluster question but I've got no knowledge.
