We are getting a ton of rain and more a coming. Not be able to get much done, but I don't have a tire carrier at the moment and I started to clean one up. It was a big chunk of rust but is working great now. I will get it greased and painted here shortly.
Here it is de-rusted, should of gotten a before picture of it but it was bad. One thing I am sure all the other tire carriers I have seen are 4 bolt and I think my truck is set up for 4 bolt. I will just drill a hole into my frame for the 3rd bolt. I know I have two other carriers but just cant seem to find them at the moment. Flash rust is what is showing and happens quick.

Here it is cooking in the tank. The three white stripes is from it getting electrified.

This is the fuel pump bracket off of my 85 when it was fuel injected. I am trying to get it to separate at the connection as it is rusted together. This is a hard and expensive part to find. Got it cooking at the moment in hopes of trying to save the bracket.

New list, some things on the list are actually changing and may be doing my carpet here in the near future. Don't want to put it on the list but am getting excited about it.
Head liner......Working on.
Weld up exhaust pipe
Detail Engine bay... working on.
Passenger seat belt
Interior trim...Working on.
Body Gaps
Buff..............Working on.
Plastic clips
Look at Heater....Getting better/working on
4WD Light
Extend front diff breather
Fix fire wall leak
Install column covers
Install sunvisors
Install tire carrier

Truck just went over the 2100 mile mark. The miles will start racking up quick when I use it for a daily driver. We have been getting record rain fall and are in a State of Emergency here. Now it is getting cold and was surprised to see snow plows out today. I think I did hear we may be getting some ice so will get to try the 4 wheel out in it later maybe.
I can drive on ice and am able to get around in when conditions are bad. I used to take it as a challenge but now I just want to get from point A to point B as soon as possible. I also will take the back roads to avoid those that try to do 90 miles an hour on bad roads. I trust my driving just no theirs.
This tire carrier was one rusty piece when I started on it. I usually just soak them in PB Blaster or vinegar for a long period of time and can get even the worst ones freed up. The electric tank sped that process up. I got it painted but wanted to show that I use bearing grease before putting it on the truck. It will take quite a bit inside the housing and turns easily now. Once or twice a year, I cycle the tire carrier just to keep it lubed and ready for use. I learned the hard way on a truck one time when I needed the spare.
You will be surprised at how much grease you can get in one of these. I really like how clean the underside is on my truck but the excess will get knocked off eventually.

Wow!! While looking up some information to answer a question on the main page for someone, I seen it was a year ago today that I got the truck moving under its own power. Just because it is moving under its own power means it still has a long ways to go before getting it on the road, but is so nice to be able to move one in and out of the shop with out having to push it in and out.
Moving under its own power probably back then the electrical did not work and did not have brakes. It didn't take quite a year to get it on the road since getting it to move but still is a slow process. I am really hoping to have this truck finished with in a year to where I want it.
2123 miles since then.

Thanks Jason... Glad to see you are back and enjoyed listening to your podcast. Yours is the first podcast I have ever listened to. I look forward to seeing it grow how things come along for you on that.
Today is the 2 year anniversary of when I started on my truck. I like how it has turned out. Still a few odds and ends left to do but for the most part it is complete and I have been enjoying using it. I think you seen it when it was at it worse so am looking forward to the next time you get to see it. I really like how it has turned out.

2 years ago today is when I started on my little crusher bound truck. Just turned 2526 miles on it. I did not get it 100% complete. I need to do stripes, interior, wheel, bed liner, and AC. I should be getting my wheel this week if all goes as planned. Maybe a few other little odds and ends that I need to wrap up like finish color sanding it and get some emblems on it but for the most part I am done with it.
I started my builds on January 11th. 2011 was Mistys runner, 2012 was my runner, and 2013 was the 85. I wont be starting one today as I am not sure what I want to tie into next. Not really planning on doing any deep projects for a while. I think I want to do quick fix projects and it could vary on models.
I will say my 85 is not the best on gas, been getting about 17 miles to the gallon. Gas is my biggest expense so one possibility has been something a little more economical. I did look at a mid 70s Celica but finding parts for it is going to be a pain. I might even see if I cant find a 4 cylinder diesel truck or car. Still not decided what I want to do for my own personal project that I want for myself.
Misty has seen me looking at other projects and knows I will always be working on something. I have built some trucks in the past and she has taken over them. She wants one that she can build. I don't think she realizes what all goes into one. She still cant decide want she wants to build. A 4x4 truck, several Mustangs generations, 280z,... I am really trying to get her to find one that she built and not bought. I have already made it clear that I will only work on it when she is helping. You really got to have your own skin in the game to appreciate what goes into a project. Not sure if she really understands what it involved.
I am trying to get her to find what she wants, decide what color and options she wants on it. I don't want her to buy a blue project when she wants a green one or something similar. Also I wont finance a project. It is save and pay as you go so that will take some time and she has never been down that road before. Wonder how long she will be able to keep her interest in a project.
I will start another project for myself, just not sure what I want to get into. I like panel trucks/cars, 40s-some 80s models. Unfortunately imports don't have car shows around here so I would like to build something that I could attend events with. Just have to wait and see what gets my interest. I will get the silver runner done and then the hunt is on for something.

Thanks Cyberhorn...It has been a workout getting it on the road and I really enjoy driving it knowing it was in a 100 pieces at times.
Thanks dirtdobber..I had a few set backs. I really wish I could of gotten my SR5 EFi harness to work but I was able to get it on the road.

I just had another set back. I was driving to work and thinking how quiet the truck was going down the road and was just pleased. Well... that changed. About 10 miles down the road and 5th gear sounded like a ball bearing was bouncing around in there. So I shifted to 4th and got to work. By the time I got it home, all the gears are just making all kinds of noise. Not sure what is going on in there and I plan on pulling the case off later this week and see what I can find. Luckily I do have another transmission to go in.
I just now got it out and going to eat a little lunch and get back after it. I got to get this truck back up and ready for work here in a few days. I am still planning on getting my SR5 rim tomorrow if all goes well.
Really was not expecting to be swapping transmissions but guess it is to be expected when using 300k mile old parts.

Hello Cyberhorn... If you eventually have to swap transmissions, I learned a few things on this swap. The transmission on the right is a G52 and the other is a W56. They are the same length and will interchange. What I learned after getting it in the truck, is the shift sticks sit further back on the W56 which is for a fuel injected truck. The transfer case stick was under the floor board so I had to cut a couple of inches out of the floor board to get the stick in the transfer case.
Luckily I had a spare transmission to go into it. I dont think I have any more good ones laying around. I dont drive mine hard so was surprised to have this transmission to fail on it. For what they want for a transmission out of the bone yard, I am going to keep an eye out for a parts truck.

Six hours and a couple of hundred miles later, I finally got a complete set of the chrome rims to have a full matching set. I was originally just going to get one but the guy found out where all I had been and other yards thinking they had the right one he gave me a deal of two for the price of one.
I have started cleaning them up. One I think will just have to be a spare but I will try to make it look as good as possible. I already have a lot elbow grease into getting these to this point. Just one of the benefits of trying to get 30 year old parts to looking as best as possible.

They are in bad shape but think they will look ok. Maybe some year I will have them re chromed or find a better set. A step closer getting the rims. Now just stripes, ac, carpet, and some interior work left.

The rim I am going to use full time is cleaning up alright. This one that I have in the electro tank is the one I am going to use as a spare so am not concerned if the chrome can stand up to the electricity. Cyberhorn, could I fully submerse the wheel and get all of the rust? Right now I am just getting the rust on the back side is why it is not completely covered.

Your wheels are looking good, I like that style of wheel. My neighbor has a 79' toyota 4x4 (that's just sitting and rusting away) and next to it there are 2 of those style wheels bolted up to a spare toyota front straight axel that are just sitting. I thought about getting them just because they are getting harder to find.
Sounds like you're getting really close to having your truck completed. I look forward to seeing what you pick for your "non toyota" project. I like the old panel trucks to, I could have got a 65'ish chevy panel that was pretty straight last summer, but didn't have the money at the time. I think I might do a little work on my old Ford this summer, I have a 79 f250 that runs really good and a 76' F150 parts truck, I might try to combined the 2 and make one nice truck out of them. I kind of want to chop and shorten the frame and the box and make it a short box.
