This is my first 4wd build , but not my first restoration
Holden is our aussie brand but its part of GM , introduced in 1968 the 253 4.2L and 308 5L was the early aussie v8 engie made by Holden , they stopped making the 253 in 1984 and the last of the carby 308 in 1991 replaced by efi 304 essentially the same . that was produced until 2000 when it was replaced by the LS1
Incidentally Holden have announced they will stop all manufacturing in Australia in 2017
253 has 174 hp (130 kW) at 4400 rpm
Torque 247 lb/ft (325 Nm) at 2400 rpm
Hope this helps

Cool project! Is that the factory radiator, or has it been upgraded? Do you have any issues with it overheating? I like the snorkel, I always wanted to get one, but they're kind of expensive. Welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing some more updates, and maybe some offroading pics!

Yeah i think its the factory rad , it was a 2.4L diesel from factory
Im not sure if it overheats i only drove it on and off the car trailer
Well let it begin
This is the lower rocker

This is the sections i cut out
I also treated the inside with rustkill

This is the patch panel i made from an old door i had lying around

After welding , before grinding back

Here is the rust at the top of the rhr quarter
Only looked like a small section but had to keep cutting
I think this is the reason the lower quarter was so rusty , water was just flowing down

All cut out nice and rust free

Was worse than it looked

Was a bit tricky the get the angles right, on the repair panel but i got there

Ready for some bog to smooth it over and a coat of high-fill

Nice work on the sheet metal repair work! You'll have the 4 runner looking as good as new in no time! I envy some of the Toyota's that you have downunder, with the diesel engines and 4 door pickups, I'd love to get my hands on a first or second gen crew cab pickup!

Thanks mate
Yeah those dual cabs are very nice , would be a bit more practical than a 2 door 4runner but thats what my mate had so thats what i got

Don't get me wrong, I love the 4 runners, that's what I have, and it suits my needs well with my 2 little ones, I just meant that the dual cabs were never offered here in the States until 2001 Tacoma's were introduced. I saw some pics of the first and second gen dual cabs several years ago and felt like we got the short end of the stick, lol.

Yep i no what you mean we only got the 4runner until 94 i think, and havent had one since , i would have thought the us would have had the dual cab its a much larger market
Bit tricky gettin the little one in and out of the baby seat in the 4runner , dual cab woul make that easier , but i still like the 4runner

Wow, your buddy did a good job on bending those patch panels, the contour looks like a perfect match! Man your really knocking out the body work, nice job!
You have a good looking dog there, my parents got a Pit bull Terrier pup awhile back, he's six months old now and already filling out and getting that broad chest, he's still a clumsey pup tho, lol. My wife and I are considering maybe getting one this summer.
