Yea, I'll get some better ones. Making great headway on getting the inside cleaned up. I think the odor was from the mildew that was mostly on the vinyl headliner. I cleaned that up with Mildew Remover. But then, those Magic Erasers...they're the bomb. They just really peeled that old mildew oooffff. Amazing.
Sure smells better in there. Just was musty smell. Was gonna do the apple thing to remove odors..., but I was afraid some raccoons around the barn would try to scratch my paint and get in to get em.

Finally got the caliper/hub/rotor off. Yes, that caliper is in half. It felt like it was stuck to the rotor. I dunno. So I just took the caliper apart. Probably regret it later, but at the time...it seemed like the thing to do. I've never done all this before, so it's a learning thing for me.

Here's the rotor:

There's a guy down the road who turns rotors really cheap and then I just gotta get the caliper halves/pads put back together.
Guess I need to clean up that spindle and backing plate somehow. I see where some guys are painting their calipers.

Sorta, lol.
Got the hub gaskets from Toyota..16 bux for 2 sets.
But, the heat index being 114...I ain't went near the barn for awhile now. And, just staying busy you know.
To me, I want this to be a fun piddling project. And work the funding into my budget as well. So, it's gonna take awhile.
Over the next week I'd like to get that wheel assembly back on. I have to buy the caliper assembly and brake line and that should be all I need to finish that one.
I don't wanna rush it, but just keep making progress and having fun.
and, I don't wanna have a heat stroke in 114 degree barn.
but, thanks for asking gmack.

Ok.....I'm BACK!
It's been a hectic summer and honestly, just too hot down in my barn.
But, I'm started to head back at this thing. As you can see, I don't get in a big ole hurry bout much.
That said, I've rethought this a little bit and am ready to call in a little help. I have a buddy who I called today and is gonna come over soon. He can take a vehicle apart, put it back together in his sleep. And, I trust him.
Because, quite frankly, these brakes make me sorta nervous. And, that's the part where I am.
The carb, with an experienced hand, should get rebuilt and go back on ok.
But...Once I get it going...I need to stop SAFELY more than I need to go.
So, that's where I'm at. Just want those brakes working right. And, I don't trust myself on brakes, just yet.
So, as soon as we get together, I'll post more back.
Thanks to everyone here.

I'm loving this build. I'm kinda on the other end of the spectrum that you are. At 17 I bought myself an '86 4Runner. I've be tinkering (very slowly at that) trying to make it nicer and putting all my money into it. I know I'm going to keep my Runner for a long time and eventually I feel like I'll be doing the same thing you're doing. Keep up the good work! I'll be following this one for sure.
