Bezel Transplant

Well, the stuff is just sorta propped in there and nothing hooked up, but that's a STRRRROOOONG resemblance to what she looked like when I drove her home off the lot October 12th, 1981.
Gotta get a bracket or something back behind the radio to screw it into. Me and my drunken friend sawed the right bracket out in 1982 to put a bigger radio/cassette in there.
Pretty cool, pretty cool indeed.
Lots to do to get that dash back like it was, but for right now...
I'm PreT durn happy.
Thanks to my new bud 1980lwb for contacting me about the bezel and radio.

You're now part of the 32 year history on my truck! lol.
I sorta laughed out loud myself when I remembered puttin my Aviators in that sunglass box.

On the picture with the radio there on the bottom right corner there is a plastic cylinder that is connected with all the wiring to the radio and other stuff. Does anyone know what that piece is for? I was taking out a bunch of extra wires the previous owner had put in for an aftermarket stereo and this piece fell out but I have. I idea what it is for. I wish I still had my stock radio like this truck they ruined my bezel and all the compartments around the radio

So, just when you think you've got it all going ok...
New problem: She wants to OCCASIONALLY die while running down the road.
I had taken her back to the mechanic who is the best in the area, great guy..because on cold mornings she wouldn't crank without carb cleaner shot into the carb. Then crank and run fine.
He adjusted the carb some and I went to pick her up. She drove half way home and started dieing while driving. Took her back.
He fixed the choke plate (was in a bind) and adjusted the fuel mix.
Drove it home and did fine.
Next day, started perfect on first hit, drove perfectly to breakfast with a bud, then after leaving the restaurant, she started it AGAIN. I coasted over to a dollar store parking lot, called him and he came out..fed her carb cleaner while I fed her a little gas pedal on the inside and she overcame the need to die. Drove her 1/4 mile or so and she started it again. Repeated all of that..HE drove her to the shop and she drove fine. I'm accusing her of having an affair with him. He puts her in HIS bay by HIS own personal toolbox. lol
He's going to keep her and drive her around on errands and such to see if it'll repeat and he can figure this out.
New fuel in a newly reconditioned fuel tank.
Battery ok full charge.
Solenoid voltage ok, 13 amps.
Fuel shows in the lil window on the carb.
He says he doesn't think it's vaccuum lines because she would be dieing all of the time and not just occasionally. She has done it once with him.
I believe the Flux Capicator is messing up. I believe we need to get her to the town belltower at midnight on this stormy night and try to get her up to 133 MPH to get the Gigawatts she needs.
He doesn't think she'll go 133 MPH without quitting.
Any thoughts from you Yotaologists much appreciated!

Sucks to hear you've got a mystery problem.
I had a similar issue develop and thought it might be the fuel filter, so I went to pull it just to find that a PO somewhere down the line had decided fuel filters are for jerks and had replaced it with a 2" stub of a BIC pen. It sounds to me like you have some kind of similar higher-load fuel delivery issue. You've mentioned the bowl is filling fine so it's good at idle, but under load at the right time, it starves and dies. I've seen this happen when the return line gets routed to the carb from the pump.
That's my two cents. I think it's great you've got a mechanic who's willing to live with it for a bit to get a solid diagnostic.

Dood, I'm trying to keep from having to buy another, but if it comes down to it..yes..it'll be a Weber. Hate to have to pay for one (after having this one rebuilt and all) and then having to have it put back on..But, she's gotta run!
I can't believe trash could be in it still.
I'm banking on something electrical going TO the carb...heck..I dunno.
I work on hearts, not carbs.

The factory carbs are good, but finicky.. The slightest piece of trash in the needle and seat will reek havoc...

DIE.
Like it's turned off.
He's taken the solenoid out and plugged that hole with a bolt and doing something with the idle solenoid. I don't know what EITHER of those things mean.
But he's ruling out anything to do with the carb.

He did say that it seems like a pattern:
Crank good, drive awhile...let sit for 1 or two hours.
That's when the problem starts...after a good drive, then sitting off for a couple of hours.
And then....it might do fine for a few days?

Just skip all that and say 'I'm needy...can somebody please give me some attention???'. My life is much cleaner without all that mess to have to filter through.
Anywho, actually today I'm going to pick the ole blue gal up from the shop. YOu know I had that random shutting down problem that he's really had issue with finding out why. He did remove and plug the solenoid and the idle solenoid. He says she has ran fine since then. He's been driving her around town a little. I certainly dunno.
But I'm gonna get her home today and drive her some. Guess we'll see. If she does run great, then I guess it was the solenoids???
So, good to hear from you. Hope your doing well.
Hope everyone here is having good holidays!
Mark and Dixie.
