nolanators noob wheelin 81 Yota

Hey guys, my names Nolan and I just picked up an 81 Toyota pickup on impulse last night....been Toying with Toyotas for a while now, mostly in drifting and old Corollas and stuff. But all my buddies decided they were gunna spend big bucks on fancy offroad rigs and I figured Id get something to wheel with that I could just as much fun with for a quarter of the cost. Im a complete noob when it comes to anything offroad related so hopefully you guys can be patient. Ill try and upload some pictures once I figure out how and go from there

I picked it up for $800, I thought the 81 was circular headlights as well, i know though that it has multiple parts/panels off different trucks all hashed together by the previous owner but the VIN indicates that it is a 1981 truck. Personally wouldnt mind picking up the circular front end but cosmetics arent really a priority at the moment. Took the truck up to Harrison Lake this past weekend camping. About a 1 1/2 hour drive from my house. lots of fun logging/service roads to bomb around on, unfortunately on the way back I was flying down the logging road and 2 of the rear leafs slipped out of the passenger side u bolts. I believe the overload spring and another one that was added to the existing pack? I ended up doglegging the thing home and then my alternator died. I talked to the previous owner and he said apparently he did something where he loosened the rear u-bolts to give a bit of play in the rear end so you dont crack the spring? Kinda new to this but do people normally do that? Didnt think spring steel could really crack that easily.
