Most, if not all wood grains are hydrographics, I can dip anything in a wood grain that can get wet. Try a google search, bet someone in you area does it.

It took a while to read through the thread. This project is getting lots of good attention!

Seeing as you had the service records, it is not surprising that it fired right up (with carb issues of course!!!). I love those old wagen wheels. They'd be worth blasting and recoating white, maybe with the red and blue (or just blue) pin striping.

I have to finish my carport before I can start on mine. But I am definitely going to pull off the bed and cab and do the frame right. $500 for sandblast and powdercoat IS DEFINITELY a good price. Strip that frame and go for it. Kawa recommends bagging and labeling everything in the process (photos too). Order new grommets and bushings. I CAN'T believe Kawa's better half hates his truck (enough that she would rather he go back to racing)

How could anyone not just love what he's done with it. That rolling chassis with the engine and drivetrain looks basically new. His rebuild is my inspiration

You've got some fun ahead of you Dave...

Ok. Back from getting the oven. Its like brand new. No one ever used it, or if they did, they were a clean freak. 2 nice racks in it too. I took out the top burners and chucked them. I dont want to ever turn one on by accident. See how nobs are on front? The back upright comes off.
I can raise this up easliy now to get stuff in and out without hurting my back too much. Plus less likely to bump stuff.

Then I read up on the harbor frieght blast cabinet and modes people do to them. I have a dedicated shop vac for dust. Caulking it when assembles with silicone and I ordered an upgraded gun kit and a blow gun kit.

Just got done reading through your build thread, you've been making a lot of good progress! I found a 82' Trekker in my area on CL for $3000, the body looked to be in pretty sound condition although someone had done a chevy V6 swap on it. Wish I had the money, it would be cool to own a rare yota like you have, but I got enough projects as it is, lol.

Nice score on the oven, I'd love to have the means to do powder coating and sandblasting, maybe someday when we buy our own place.
Can't wait to see the progress you make with all the new tools you've gotten lately!

And the blowgun kit. To blow off parts and cabinet door to keep mess down when removing items.

I was gonna spend a little on the 87 4runner. Lifting it and such. But since I have been home hurt from work I am bored to death. Granted I can't put in more than a 1/2 hour without sitting down in pain, but I can chip away at stuff and keep from going crazy at least. Heck one part blasted and coated a day is progress.

Plus cool new tools will lure a couple freinds over for some "tom sawyer principle work" ( when you make a task seem so cool and fun your freinds want to help and pretty soon they are doing all the work) lol.

I would recommend against those siphon fed blaster guns and go with a pressurized abrasive setup. I got this from Harbor Freight:

http://www.harborfreight.com/20-lb-p...ter-68994.html

and replaced the cheap nozzle with this deadman valve:

http://www.harborfreight.com/deadman...les-92189.html

The siphon blasters get clogged easily and aren't meant for heavy volume. I speak from experience - my Harbor Freight blaster with deadman valve works really well. I spent several days trying to use my siphon blaster on my frame and didn't even get half done before I borrowed my friend's the pressurized blaster and did the rest in an afternoon. I then went out and bought the HF blaster for the rest of my work. I've seen folks hook up the pressurized blasters to blast cabinets before too - I'd recommend doing that. Just giving you my 2 cents so you don't have to work harder than necessary.

I've done 2 weeks research on this setup. The skat gun from tp tools is the bomb. I have a bigboy compressor too. Im going to be golden on blasting. Even doing a water bong type dust filter with the vac. Going to be damn near dustless. I've had one of these cabinets in the past. And I agree the harbor freight gun is a total turd. I've seen a ton of vids with this tp gun setup and it seriuosly rocks.

Ill make some vids. It will take a little time to mod and setup. Going to do a better light in it off the bat too. I may be gimped, but Im a handy mechanical son of a .....lol.

Someone told me of a poor lost puppy 4runner out in the cold. Im going to look at it tomorrow. I hope it doesnt follow me home.

I have a trans in garage that just needs input shaft bearing.

Might flip it...might harvest from its bounty. We will see. I have more room in the driveway...cant have an open spot can I?

Im in parts hoarding mode right now.

Gathering supplies still for the blaster/powdwercoat set up. Finally got refund from eastwood. Beware. They kidnap your money when you cancel an order.
Over a week.

Hobart 140 on the way.

Still trying to figure out if IM going to do all the desmog stuff now when I install weber..or just get it on and plug up everything for now. I mean the cab is coming off eventually.

Still here. Chipping away a lil bit everyday. With ther current cold spell we are under...lol I guess I mean winter. Its pretty cold so Im even moving slower now. Stiff as a board.

Should have some action soon. Prolly do a blaster cabinet upgrade thread or something. Need a pipe in basement relocated so I can set oven and blast cabinet up.

Have to run a 220 outlet to the stove area as well. Only bout 6ft from my 200amp box.

You might want to reconsider powdercoating in your basement. I have my oven set up in the garage and I leave the garage doors open and still get some pretty nasty fumes and smells in there. I wouldn't want my whole house smelling like that - and remember, heat rises so it will inevitably carry the smell up and through your home.

Im setting up an exhaust system from oven to outside world.
It will be a range hood with charcoal filtration. 300cfm fan.
Ducted right to and out of a basement window. Add in a 4ft tall
commercial fan to blow out said windows while baking "cookies" as well.

Its cold in the garage man. You want me to freeze to death?

That is a great looking oven you got. Dont blame you for not wanting to be in the garage. It is cold here in the midwest. Not sure when I will be up in January. When I find out I will let you know and can give you a hand with something. I will probably be up there at least 3 days when I am up there.

Careful what you say!! I got a dozen projects....lol. Hopefully my back lets up some and I can get some stuff done. Been really tore up last few days. Using a cane to get around. Mighty mouse dropped me off 6 chrome wheels today for the trekker. Little polish be like new. He saw me with the cane and was feeling bad for this poor old man...lol.

I think I have a "volunteer" to help me some over the weekend. Maybe stlrunner will help a little when he's off work tomorrow.

Sounds like a good plan then, I just didn't want to hear in the news where some Toyota nut job in the midwest died from powdercoating fume inhalation. That would be bad PR for the rest of us LOL

Whew. What a day. Chris (stlrunner) ws off today and came by. He was gonna work on his truck but it was cold. I proposed an indoor project.

We managed to move my pvc sump pump line out of the way to make room for the area of the basement we are using for the blasting and powder coating area.

Then Chris was like...lets put together sandblast cabinet. So Chris went at it...caulking everything with clear silicone. I fetched a few tools but was pretty much down for the count after the pvc work. I'm paying dearly right now....but we got a good day in of piddling. I planned the air pipe layout in my mind while down in the basement. Zues hung out with us the entire time. He's a working kinda dog.

Gonna pick up my stainless range hood in the morning. $35. Was like 300 new. Got a great idea for exhaust setup for window as well.

Few pics.

Area in basement stuff is going. Pvc pipe is tucked up close to wall...but we left room for a wall to be framed in behind it. See some of my chrome wheels from mighty mouse!!

Chris putting cabinet together. Part of my wifes "wall of shoes" . She has millions of them. Her brother was a shoe bigwig for a long time and she is sample size....lol.

Cabinet mostly together. Leaving glass off for now to do some lighting mods. Also getting "sacrificial" sheets of glass cut that I can use instead of those terrible plastic sheets. Fit and finish were a little rough...but hey its Harbor freight. Went together ok. It will work for sure.
