Ran out and grabbed a new battery and some starting fluid.

She will fire with starting fluid and run for a sec...

Put a couple gallons gas in to no avail.

Obviously not getting fuel.

Whats my next step?

 

Clean them jets out.


Edit: Actually first take the fuel line off the carb and see if your getting fuel there first. If not, then you'll have to check the pump and then tank.

no fuel getting to pump.

 

Is the pump working? If there is rust in the tank the pickup could also be clogged.

I'm not going to suggest sucking on the fuel line, but it's a possibility.

 

Ok a little closer. I slapped a new fuel filter and pump on it...now its getting fuel to carb.

Still not firing on its own. Takes a squirt of starter fluid...then it fires for a sec...then dies.

I assume I need to get into the carb now?

 

$3-5 for a fuel filter...look for it on p/s wheel well

Its getting fire. Its down to the carb at this point.

Take the carb apart, soak the jets in carb cleaner, blow them out with air. Also clean any gunk out of the float bowl. If it still doesn't fire it's probably ignition timing.

 

Logan...it fires up and runs for a few seconds with starter fluid.

Im looking at carb kits now...and just happen to have a gallon
of chemdip from rebuilding my 1973 rd350 carbs over the summer.

So looks like Im rebuilding the carb.

Also...this truck was meticulously maintained until 1992.
I got records for every oil change...filters. This guy followed the Book on maintaining it. Changed diff and trans fluids on schedule. God I wish I was so anal...lol.

Original owner is going to send me a couple pics of when it was new.

The floor pans have me worried sick.
Anyone make patch pans?

 

Cut out the rusted metal and replace it with non-rusted metal? For the fiberglass part you'll need to learn to do fiberglass.

 

Find a donor floor pan.

Well. Day 2.

Been getting some offers on the trekker. I am more than likely let her go. She's a little more than I care to start with. I really wanted a pickup. And I honestly really dont feel like doing the floor pans. At one potential purchasers request Im not doing anything else to it. They want the barn find feel to it when it
arrrives.

Im really not looking to make a profit or anything but I intend on recouping my expendetures and maybe a lil treat for me.

I feel like Im changing my mind every tens minutes on this...
So if you know anyone who may want this thing..lemme know.

Otherwise Im feeling pretty sure this guys gonna buy it.

 

she looks really good a lot of work ahead but thats what makes it special!

 

really cool truck man... but it looks to be a VERY INVOLVED and expensive rebuild...

would def be worth it when complete but unless you can do all the work yourself its gonna cost a small fortune...

I would almost let her go and look for a early pickup with a nice body and frame... I personally dont mind fixing mechanical issue but body work is a bit of a drag..
i appreciate the pics as i have always wanted a trekker or trail blazer
