Thanks Kodi! I can hardly wait to get it done. What doesn’t get finished this winter I’m planning on taking time off from my job next summer to finish it up.
Also, rub factory style lights. That modern round light inside the rectangle has no place on a classic. Maybe a classic style with a led up-fit but do not bastardize that beauty with some Amazon style halos
Alright another day with a free hour or two after work and slow but sure progress. The dash got painted, drivelines got installed most of the loose wires on the passenger side fender well got put in a 1” loom and fastened to the fender well with some 1” clamps from Clips and Fasteners which really cleaned the passenger side up. Here’s a few pics. Kind of sort of a driveline photo Painted dash Loose wires finally contained
If you are looking for an upgrade for lights and want to keep them stock looking I would go for Holley retro brights, not cheap but awesome and I’ve heard good things.
Were you looking to chop the buckets and go round??
Good morning Disco. At this point in time I’m hoping to keep the mods limited to front and rear Smittybilts, the OME suspension lift and oversized tires. Those items seemed so ubiquitous to these trucks in the late 70s and early 80s that in my mind they’re OEM but I appreciate the info on the lights. I’ll check them out. Thanks again for your insight.
Good evening to all. Been busy remodeling one of our bathrooms so the Toyota has been getting the short end of the working day. No time for anything but cleaning some parts this afternoon. Tracking numbers indicate the rattle can paint and clear coat from Automotive Touch Up should be here tomorrow so that will allow for the dash, doors and fenders to go back on the truck. I can hardly wait.
Jeep JK headlight housings fit in vintage round headlight buckets. I used some on a first gen trooper I had. They have a pretty good pattern and cheap bulbs.
Thanks locked fj80 that is good to know. I appreciate the cost savings tips as well.
Meanwhile the first wave of parts has arrived from today’s early carriers. Starting at the top and going clockwise are a clutch slave cylinder, clutch slave hydraulic line, three 26” extended brake lines (two front, one rear), and a potential front license plate. The cab interior paint is scheduled to arrive this afternoon.
The cab interior paint showed up yesterday evening. I really like the aerosol cans from Automotive Touch Up. They allow a person to paint a small area with what appears to be a quality product. They seemed to work well on the engine compartment and hopefully work well on the interior of the cab, A pillars, interior of the doors and the front fender flanges.
The new brake lines are nice but may actually be a little too long. I put a twist in the rear brake line to keep it from flopping around too much but I’m trying to think of another way to keep it in place.

Finished up with the paint and clear coat for now. Doors and fenders can go back on now as well as a bunch of cab interior work. Here are a couple more pics. Just noticed while installing the rear drive line I forgot to clean and paint the front of the rear axle. That’s done now.
The can gun from AutomotiveTouchUp is a game changer and a bargain at only $5.
Found some time yesterday to get back to the truck. Got the dash installed along with the e brake handle, rear brake backing plates cleaned up and painted and hard lines run from each brake drum to the rear axle tee fitting. Also finally got the bell crank re installed on the left side so it can get finished up. Here’s a couple pics. Enjoy the weekend.
