Not much visible progress lately. Just working through KawaZX636’s superb Desmog Tutorial and the FSM in as much of an orderly fashion as possible to get things reassembled. Many items accomplished and many yet to do. Here’s a few pics. Instrument panel, heater core and new speedometer cable went in today. Feels good to get started on the interior. Current state of the motor install. Just verifying no dash pieces are missing. The dash pad came new from a dealer, far left and far right pieces from eBay, middle section from a 3D printer/seller and the glove box came with the truck. SEM paint sounds like it’s pretty good so now it’s time to buy a can and standardize the dash components color.
Good evening Techers. The slave cylinder was replaced about a month ago. The line transition bracket was removed and I cannot seem to figure out where I unbolted it from (transmission, bell housing, frame, etc.) Any hints would be much appreciated. Here’s a few pics. Took this bracket off about a month ago when the slave cylinder was replaced and cannot figure out where the heck it bolts to. View from below looking up at the two slave cylinder lines (marked with blue tape). View from above looking down at the lines. Progress photo.
The more I look at it I would imagine a cable may go through that weird hole and then twist to lock? The round hole for a bolt and that little 90 degree tab would go in another hole to hold the bracket, yea that all makes sense in my head…..
That’s a good one Disco! Maybe I’ll stumble across a flux capacitor while I’m looking for the master capacitor? You are correct about the odd shaped hole in that the end of the flex line does slide through it where it meets the hard line and ends up getting locked into place with a small horseshoe shaped clip.
Here’s a preliminary look at the paint. There’s a lot of wet sanding left to do in the near future. By the time sanding and polishing is done the silver metallic “hockey sticks” from James Dean Creations will probably have arrived.
A pair of Sport Seats arrived today from Corbeau. Still waiting on a pair of their 79-83 Toyota seat mount sliding assemblies. Also waiting on a center console for a Jeep 76-83 CJ5. If the advertised dimensions are correct it should be a perfect fit. Here’s a pic.
Yea they look comfy as hell, I have been wanting to ditch my bench for years but getting the factory console, rails, seats, just doesn’t sound fun, so I have learned to deal with the bench, but yea those seats look lovely indeed
Thanks 81 4 x 4. That’s great you were able to get those seats and not have to fight the installation of them.
After setting one of the seats on the couch and sitting in it I can confirm they’re comfy seats Disco. The sides aren’t bolstered up to the point they’ll be a hassle to slide into. Good logic re sticking with your bench seat. If the one in this truck wasn’t in such bad shape I’d have done the same thing.
[QUOTE=Enzothehound;52503812]Good evening Techers. The slave cylinder was replaced about a month ago. The line transition bracket was removed and I cannot seem to figure out where I unbolted it from (transmission, bell housing, frame, etc.) Any hints would be much appreciated. Here’s a few pics.
The end of the flex line goes threw it , and then connected to the small hard line to the slave , then has a horseshoe clip on the lines . it mounts to a bell houshing bolt .
Thank you Slacker! That points me in the right direction. The hard line must’ve gotten bent somehow to not have that fitting line up with a bell housing bolt during the original reassembly. Thanks again.
Did a quick trial mounting of the seats and verified the console fits width wise prior to installing carpet. Since the top of the console is hinged on the back edge it needs to be slid up to the edge of the transfer case shifter boot to be able to fully open the top. Trying to think of a way to mount the hinges on a mechanism that could slide forward a few inches when the lid is up and then back as the lid lowers. Any ideas?
Also included a photo of the front of the rig but there’s not much room between it and the back wall so the perspective is skewed. Cheers!
