1981 Short Box Build - 400HP 5.3L

So here is my build.... I documented it on my local clubs forumn.... but figured I would post it here. I know when I was building this I could not find any info on stuffing a 5.3 into a 1st gen pickup...so my build has lots of details.... it was a fun build and worth it.

Excellent truck! Your work is incredible!

What brand are those fender flares? Are they made for first gen toyotas?

I don't have plans....but I can take pictures and measurements if you like. It was built in my friends shop with a hydraulic bender....but mostly by eye.

Believe it or not those are bushwhacker flares...which have been off the market for easily 10 years. Someone had them for sale back in 2008 in the classified forums on this board...and I emailed him to see if he still had them.... he did....brand new and in the box...very full of dust. Its a shame nobody makes them anymore...they really make the truck.

BTW thanks for the kind words.

A few people have been trying to persuade Slacker, a forum member here and fiberglass wizard, to make replicas. It would be cool if the planets came into alignment on that project, but Slacker is a very busy guy.

Nice truck, by the way. I'm not a big fan of Chevotas, but you went for a very creative angle that makes this one stand out. I really liked that Edelbrock ignition setup, that was pretty clever.

I'm buying a box from Slacker (about to put the check in the mail today). I'm trying to convince him to replicate those Bushwhacker fender flares, but he needs a set to make a mold out of. I like your's a lot better than the other versions of Bushwhackers that I have seen for our trucks. I think they actually made two different versions.
