Holy crap this thing is slow.

I wasn't expecting a rocket, and being used to my Legacy wagon (330 hp sleeper FTW), I'm a bit spoiled, but man...

I swear my manual 3rd gen with 183hp felt faster than this thing which has roughly 90 more horses...

Maybe it was because it was cold out and traction in 2wd was sketchy at best (traction control would kick in), or maybe it was because I'm not used to having to mash the gas to get any kind of reaction from a damn slushbox, I have no idea.

Overall, the truck is super nice, rides wonderfully, the interior amenities are fine, I could totally see myself in one, but I will definitely have to test drive one when temperature allows for a more thorough evaluation of the powerplant, because so far, I'm not impressed.

An Xterra feels quicker.

Why, oh WHY do they NOT offer it with a shift stick...

I felt the same way the first time I drove a 2nd gen.

 

Oh yeah, the guy also gave me the press kit, which is NOT supposed to be given to the public and goes into greater details to explain the various features of the truck.

The brochure itself sucks beyond belief.

 

I'm sure the TRD supercharger will be coming soon. Don't worry about power. But if power is what you're after, maybe an SRT8 is a better bet? Cayenne? X5?

 

forgive me for being rude here, but come on, its a big heavy vehicle with a crappy 6 cylinder motor... that was the same problem with the second gen runners...

its a toyota... why do you NEED it to go fast? especially when you wanna get the trail edition... if you wanna go fast, get the sport edition...

 

Hows the new V6 compare to the 4th gen V6?
Not gonna lie, the 4th gen V6 is really damn peppy, yes you have to give it more gas due to DBW, so in theory it feels slower because of delayed throttle response, but I know that thing just pulls and pulls once you get into 2nd.

My moms 06 4runner isn't that slow. Don't think id ever buy a brand new car, if I did it would be an sti or a fj cruiser. I just don't like the look of the 4runners now

 

Why didn't Yota offer a V8 in the 5th gen 4runner? Was it simply for mpg figures?

I don't like the idea that you have to get the GX460 lexus to get the v8 now.

Those of us that tow more than 3000lbs want/ need more total power than the 4.0 can make.
