So what do you do after a couple miles of highway testing? Just jump in and head north about 60 miles! Another goal of my son's was for him to drive to Vermont.

The little 1.8 did real well but that automatic transmission needs 1 more speed. It's doing like 3500 RPM just to do about 62 MPH so I don't think it did real well on gas. You gotta stay on the gas pedal to stay at speed. I was a little freaked out by the amount of hood shake at speed too. I need to adjust the hood stop on the passenger side. I just stuffed some paper towels in it in Greenfield MA.
once we got back in town we treated the old Rolla to a bath to get all the salt off.
Just messing around with the Rolla again....
I took a little trip out to North Kingstown RI to visit another recycling center 😉 I did an internet search and found that they had an automatic transmission for a good price and thought of giving it a try. The current set up you have to warm up the car real good before it shifts out of first and it usually takes about a mile of driving at 30 to get it to go. Other than that it's fine once the initial shift happens. I am half tempted to try switching the valve body from the recent purchased transmission but I would like to replace the rear main seal also. I figured if it doesn't work out we'll at least have the other transmission out for a possible rebuild. Now that I finally have the proper speed O drive I found one that would have worked on a e bay just before getting this transmission.

For some reason I wasn't able to upload these photos from my little outing in search of parts for the Brown Hornet.
I made a quick little lunch stop at mashamoquet state park, the weather wasn't great for a picnic but its one of our favorite spots to take the 4runner too. Had to see it in the winter. maby next time we will take the Brown Hornet.
Nothing like bringing the old Rolla out to get the new Rolla going. My mother has been having battery issues with a less than 2 year old corolla ( covered by warranty) I got one of them jumper packs for this recently. The thing is smaller than a brick but works good especially if the car is blocked by other cars like last time I had to jump start it.
we have a Toyota fan at the local dealership!
Well a year later and I finally straightened the throttle and kick down cables so they line up with the carburetor. Just drilled a new mounting hole for the bracket and welded an extension on. I was also able to finally free up the mounting nut for the kick down cable.
now I need to get going on doing this for the 4runner and finally adding that starter relay for it as well. I added a relay for the fog lights and this cool switch to the Rolla. I also added a fuse block tonthe positive side of the battery. It cleaned up some of the random fuses. I probably do the same forbthe 4runner.
I love old yellow halogen fog lights, I have a set of PIAA 520’s that I love. Your post reminds me I need to start looking at a fuse block of some sort, I have a bunch of fuses as well I need to clean up. Anyhoo the brown hornets always lookin good!!!
We've only been wanting to make a trip to old Mystic village for about 2 months now. The weather on weekends has been rough or someone was sick.
looks like a visit from the Easter bunny today!
I love the brown hornet!!!! I bet on a hot day when you get in it smells like vintage Japanese car I had a 77 Honda civic and it had the most unique old car smell. I wish I could make an air freshener that harnessed such a smell, anyway I’m not weird
Yes it does smell like old Japanese car on warm days! My son's friends father asked if he could smell the interior. He has fond memories too. The 4runner does also but a different old Japanese car smell and now with the now soft top it reminds me of a 90s Toyota pickup I had. It was vinal seats and floor. Ahh fond memories.....🤣
I just hope this used transmission is good. This is going to be a lot of work....
love all the miles this car is seeing! Cool car indeed!
that's right you have family there. Well should have told you we were going. Ha ha. It later got busy because they were doing an Easter egg hunt. The last time my wife and I went back in February they were doing a chili cook off it was real busy.

Yes, we’re often there overnight around holidays. It was super busy Saturday, then kind of quiet Sunday. MASS had a holiday Monday, so we got the three day weekend!
