See, I meant to do that. Gave you an out and made it look un-lame.

Bastards will take anything..... I had a $50 wall mart bike stolen from me in undergrad...

I like these bike threads... They have gotten sooo freaking cool in last few years.

I have 99 Klein Attitude Race with Disc front and back, 2006 Sid, XTR, Race Face cranks, USE shocking seatpost. It is a singletrack fiend. It is my race bike, been doing the Winter Park series for the past 10 years. Racing MTB for the last 21 years.

Looking at getting a Santa Cruz Blur.

I also have a Klein Quantum road bike, and a Redline cyclocross bike for night riding and winter riding.

get a beater for riding at school. Buy a good $1000 bike for trail riding. When I sold bikes for off road use I always suggested Deore or higher, as they will last much better than the lower level stuff. For racing the minimum that I will go is XT, but I prefer XTR as it holds up well. Course it is expensive as all get out, but I have 10 year old XTR gear that still works well.

Don't know what you ride with on the road, but I use ultegra or Dura Ace.

Look for a local sporting goods consignment shop, and buy from there for the beater bike.

Thanks! It is sort of an odd bike. Seems that many people want either the lightest hardtail they can build or they want a serious downhill bike that has 8" of travel. I was hoping to end up with one bike that was light enough to hang with the hardtails but smooth enough I could ride it all day. It's all a compromise, but I really like this bike.

"AuburnRunner"--any chance you live in Auburn, CA, home of the great singletrack?
