Same boat.

Dug the 4Runner out and working to get it road legal (it was in "storage" for 3-4 years.

Other options were
-- Subaru Forester XT
more power
better MPG
not as good off road
-- Jeep Wranger Unlimited 4 Door
um... its a jeep....
-- FJ Cruiser
too big
worse MPG

A DIESEL conversion would help a bunch

I had a pretty good plan formulated. I was going to make one of these eventually:

It was going to sit on 33x10.50's yota axles front and rear, arb locked. I would use a divorced samurai tcase with hi and low range gear reduction. (I even worked it out so I knew which set to get to correct for 33's with 4.10 gearing.

It would have had amazing approach and departure, flex, gas mileage, and I wouldn't be afraid to lean it on rocks. But, having all the reduction in the tcase was making me weary and teh need for cv shafts front and rear was kinda sketchy. Plus alot of it was going to have to be totally custom, so it could end up worse than what I had. I'll save that for down the road when I have more money and a bigger garage.

wait so let me get this straight.... you put the deathrunner up for sale so you could build a suzuki..??? that's like dumping Eva Langoria because Rosie O'donell winked at you!!!!!!!
