Whats my stock tire size?

I hear guys on here talking about having 31" stock tires with 4.88 gears. I have the same gearing, but my door jam says 225/75/15 is my stock tire size. So my question is, what size tires should I get? Right now I have 265/70/16's on my 4runner and the speedo is about 5mph off.

I don't think Toyota ever matched the door jamb sticker with the 31" factory tire size. Also is the speedo off a fixed percent through the range or is it a fixed MPH off?

Yes, but is it off 5 MPH at 30 and 5 MPH at 60, or is it off 2.5 MPH at 30 and 5 MPH at 60? If it is off a fixed amount, that might mean the needle on the speedo has been put on incorrectly (I did that once on my VW when I had the speedo needle off and I put it back on one tooth off on the splined shaft). If it is off a percentage, then the ratio is incorrect.

I'm really not 100% its 5mph off the entire range b/c when I was driving with with my GPS I never came to a full stop and watch the speedo climb. But between 45-70 its off by five.

Sounds like the needle is off on the speedo then. Never tore apart a Toyota speedo, but it was not too hard to do on my VW. The needle is pressed onto a small splined shaft and it was a simple matter to rotate it one spline higher or lower on that shaft and see how it works.

Or just learn to live with it. With 33s and 4.88s on my 4Runner, speedo reads a bit high, so if I drive at 70 indicated, that is just at the 65 speed limit.

So then yall are saying that 31' stock tires are my stock tire? how do yall really know that, thats the actualy stock tire, not the size it had when you bought it. And I know this is a different question, but about how many miles per a gallon are yall getting with 4.88's and 31+ tires?

Assuming 31" (inch) not 31' (foot) tires, and if you have a manual trans and 4.56 gears or an auto and 4.88 gears, then that was the factory setup for 31" tires. Otherwise, it was a ~28" tire from the factory.
