Tire life?

Hey gals and guys!

alright, so maybe some of you guys know i just got tires on my truck. I got bfgoodrich mudterrains km2. And i still have my old 30" normal street tires on my other rims. And im just wondering how long does it take to wear down one of these tires?
Im just so nervous because id hate so see my investment go down the drain.. like that.

I've heard around 30,000 if you balance them and maintain the air pressure religously but do not know from first hand experience...

that makes me more at ease, then again. Its going to start snowing soon so i guess i wont wear down hardly any when it snows. And by spring hopefully i can put new rubber on my old rims and swap them out for my mudders

If the rubber compound is anything like the original KMs, they wear really well. I have a 2 year old set of KMs on my 92 F150 with a 302 in it. I am very often caught spinning them and sliding around corners on wet and dry roads, and I have 16,000 on mine and the one with the least amount of tread has about 2/3 tread, or 66%. Just keep rotating them often if you're bad about spinning them over on asphalt like me. My front two are about 3/4 tread, and my rears are less...the right side having the least tread (open rear differential).

Investment. Never heard of tires as an investment. Investments usually increase in worth. Unless its an investment in saving your life, as new tires are better than bald?

30k seems damn nice for the type of tires you got. Remember much of the "kick ass" performace that comes from high end tires is usually taken from its lifespan. Race tires, last what? 200 laps? My motorcycle tires last 6-12k miles becuase they are so sticky to keep my on the road..I want it that way. The cheapy tires, that last longer suck in the rain.

So. In short, be happy. 30k is a nice, long time for those type tires.

You could always do what some friends of mine did..they have their big mudders and a set of cheap highway tires for when they are not out on the trail. You know, the crusing tires that get like 70k miles. Suck if you leave the road, but great gas and last forever. They rot before you wear them out.
