Ok, here is the situation. I mounted up my 285/75R16 Goodyear Duratracs on my stock rims. Beautiful tire, by the way

They rub on the frame rail at the back of the front tires when I turn the steering wheel completely to one side or the other. Interference is less than 1/4in. I also get a bit of upper control arm rub at full droop.

Now here is the question: can I safely run the thin 1/4in spacers? I don't want the larger ones that have studs pressed in. I don't need/want the tires to stick out another inch per side as the tread block edge sits almost flush with the top of the fender flares.

The ones that I've seen for sale say "Not for use in offroad vehicles". I currently have 1in of thread engagement on my wheel lugs. I would drop it to 3/4in with the spacers. Is that sufficient? I couldn't find any info on this site after searching.

ive been running 1/4 wheel spacers for over a year now with no issues. i was thinkin about going to the one inchers but these are all i need to clear my tires and it still keeps them just under the fender flares. sorry thats a little off topic. get em. just check torque regularly.

 

x2 on re-torquing them. Any time you run spacers, it's a good idea to check the torque regularly.

 

I've run 1/4" wheel spacers on and off for probably 12 years, on- and off-road, no problems, as long as you have enough threads for the lug nuts to grab onto and check the torque periodically.

 

Great. 20mm of thread engagement remaining (i think they're M12s?) should be plenty. What brand do you guys recommend?

 

Check out wheelers offroad. They sell them for 5 bucks a piece.

Lordco sells them for $7-12 IIRC. They do make your steering want to follow grooves in the road too due to you alterning the scrub radius (http://www.familycar.com/Alignment.htm). I'm picky, this bothered me, but probably wouldn't be noticeable to most people.

 

big o tires sells the 1/4" for less than $4 each

 

i got mine at pepboys. they were kinda pricey but i had to have them right away.

 

I doubt the scrub radius would be noticeable on such a wide tire with only 1/2in wider track. It also puts the distance between the tires on each axle back to equal length at rest given the suspension lift.
