Lug nut question

I have a 1990 4x4 pickup with steel wheels. I am getting aluminum wheels from a 1995 Tacoma. Will I need new lug nuts, or will mine work? Thanks

They'll work but be sure to re-torque them after some driving.

Yep, I'm pretty sure you'll need different lug nuts. The steel wheels use the acorn-shaped nuts. The aluminum wheels need shank-shaped nuts.

Ok, it did turn out that my factory lug nuts with the steel wheels are acorn style, and the Tacoma aluminum wheels required are shank/mag style.

You CANNOT CANNOT CANNOT use steel wheel lug acorn nuts on alloy wheels! You'll ruin the wheels if you do.

I did get some shank/mag style lug nuts, off of eBay. Now, about a year and a half (and one NW PA winter) later, they are looking pretty sad. They're rusty and the shiny coating is chipping off. I imagine it's a case of getting what you pay for. Can anyone recommend any stainless nuts that will retain their finish long-term? I was looking at McGard's, but they don't seem to offer the shank/mag style nut. (1995 Tacoma aluminum wheels)

Red face

It is Pa what do you expect The Liquid brine destroys every thing.

Best bet is winter summer lug nuts even my $6.00 each factory ones look interesting .

As long as the wheels stay on.
