Some people say they can't notice the small amount of power loss, some people say they did notice. It's not that big of a jump. You might find yourself having to use 4th going up hills on the highway, but you've got 190hp so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I'd at least plan on changing gears sometime in the future, but you will be perfectly fine to drive like that.

your truck will be fine. it doesn't know/care if you are driving on 25" tires, 33" tires, 35" tires, etc. (as long as all 4 are pretty much the same size). Your speedometer will be off but that's all.

REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE:
I have a 2003 Tacoma 4wd DC with auto tranny and 4.10's.
I am running 285/75R16's (33's, for all intents and purposes). I have been for well over 2 years.
With the exception of needing to use the OD button more often on long distance trips up hills, and a slight drop in gas mileage, I have experienced NO problems. I could even chalk up the drop in mileage to the fact that I am running steel rims which are heavier than aluminum.
...Unless you consider the ability to crawl over obstacles that I wasn't able to crawl over with 31's a drawback. In that case then, yeah.

Hi everyone, I have recently swapped from the evil world of Jeep (2004 Rubicon) to become a proud owner of a 2009 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4. It is time for the mods to start and I was wondering if anyone knew what the largest size tire is that you can fit on the stock truck? The truck will be used for overlanding, not rockcrawling. Thanks.

Thanks guys. I am more and more impressed with the truck. By the way, nice truck ocdropzone. Are you happy with the ARB bumper? I have had two and that is going to be the next purchase after tires.

Idk about the taco... but I got 33's on my 91 3.0 with 4.10's , and I honestly dont notice too much difference.... only on steep hills do I have to downshift, and I actually get better mpg's on the highway from the lower revs...
