cooper s/t?

i'm looking to get new tires before winter. i've had the bfg at's and they suck in mud and not too hot in deep snow, i don't want a full on mud tire, so i'm really leaning toward the cooper. seem to have the best of both worlds. does anyone run this tire? how does it do in light mud and say a foot or two of snow??

I like those tires but if you're more into mud and deep snow, the STT might be a better choice. I think it's the STT at least....

jjrgr,

maybe i am misunderstanding your question, but your question answers your question: of course a tire with more sidewall plys is stronger and better for off roading that a passenger rated tire.

standard load or 10 ply

i'm looking at the cooper s/t, they come in a p rate and 10 ply, but do i really need the 10 ply. its one or the other, the 10 ply is about $40 more per tire. i do a little bit of all off roading but nothing too harsh. the standard load rating of the S/T is 2403 lbs and the 31-10.50 C BFG a/t is 2250 lbs so does that mean the cooper is a beefier tire?

they usually have more steel plies.

cooper s/t

take a look at this website: http://www.offroaders.com/reviewbox/...duct=600&cat=4

It gives a pretty good look at several different tires. I am looking at getting the S/T tire because it says it will last around 80K miles and is good offroad as well.

The agency I work for runs the ST-C's (same tread pattern as the ST's but with an anti-chip compound) on all of our patrol rigs, and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Not too loud at high speeds, good traction, and they are very resistant to chipping out on the sharp rocks we have around here. Also are good performers in the snow.

this is a pretty old thread, i already ran the s/t's and s/t-c's, liked the stc's better, great wear, ok for winter. the s/t's sucked, they chiped and chunked right away, the wear rate would have been about 10k, so cooper replaced them, free w/stc's

I have been looking at the S/T-C's also but I have 18" wheels and I have not seen very many rim options or tire size either. the S/T's I think just started making the 18" tires but there are not many size options

I spoke to someone with a 2008 Tundra with Cooper S/Ts He had nothing but good things to say about them. Said they worked alot better than the BFG All Terrains (TA K/O).

I had the BFGs on my 1-ton Ford. They lasted a long time but they were not good at all the the mud. I do quite a bit of highway driving but when I go hunting I get in some serious mud sometimes. That is why the S/T or S/T-c looked appealing because most of the reviews I have read say they have long lasting tread life and are pretty good in the mud

I used to work at a cooper dealer locally and have several friends and previous customers running s/t's on a variety of trucks and will never buy anything but, around here we don't get much snow in town but a 15 min drive to the mountains where it snows 5-6 feet and they do wonders, as well as handle awesome in the mud. they do last a long time for the tread type and I really doubt you will be disappointed. I bought 2 sets on for my old chevy and am going to buy a set for my 85 yota as soon as the funds become available.

as far as performance on ice they do exceptionally well. It is an awesome all around tire. only draw back is they can be spendy.
