now see, i thought about getting 2 sets of tires...but the mud terrains would be the best thing for me...with the job that i do, and the places i have to go on a daily basis..i need a good mud terrain..it's either that or make a dozer or trackhoe pull me out lol.

sometimes we get away with just parking our trucks and walking a little bit..but here lately we've been having to drive out to some pretty nasty places.

and on top of that, i drive some pretty nasty "roads" and 4wheeler trails on my own time lol

although i probably will grab a set of boggers or LTB's for when i want to get down and dirty

 

soo...checked out the specs on the 285/70R17 Federal Couragia M/T...and the tread depth NEW is like 14.2/32nds......WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?

all the rest of the tires are about 19-21...but not 14.2!?!?!?!?!?!?...hell i MIGHT could get 25,000miles out of em.....

SOOO...now i'm looking for some new tires...

CRITERIA
1.gotta be good in mud
2. need to get AROUND 40K-50K miles out of em
3. need to be relatively cheap
4.15"-17" is the rim size.
5. tire needs to be around a 33x12.50..little bigger or smaller, narrower or wider is okay.


285/75 federal M/T's are like $155 a tire installed in my hometown at the expensive shop lol

33x10.50 is not an option.. little too skinny, would make the 4runner look like poop LOL

heh if you could, i'd say find some KM1s as a 33x12.50 R15... thats the first tire that came to mind in your "CRITERIA" description.

Realistically, there are very few tires that you actually get 50k out of... regardless of what the manufacturer's "mileage rating" is. Your average street tire you can expect about 25-30k out of them... michelins and bfg all terrains tend to last a bit longer up to the 40k range.

What you're looking for with a ton of mileage is a harder tread compound, which unfortunately just isn't present in most mud tires. They all typically use a much softer compound to have better flex for improved traction, especially if you air them down.

Since the original BFG mud terrain's are no longer around, the next best thing would be the maxxis buckshot mudder. They do great offroad, and have a hard tread compound that tends to last a very long time. I don't expect to see more than about 20-25k out of my procomps before I replace them... but then again I personally refuse to run a tire down to less than 5/32 tread depth. For various reasons. But I have seen guys running the buckshots over the 35-40k mark with no issues.

 

theres numerous guys out here on the pipeline that have buckshots (load range E's) on their rigs...and they all say that same thing.."they're wearin out pretty fast, but they're pretty great other than that."

and i've seen a set of KM1's with 45K miles on em..and they had about 5/32nds of tread left..i was just checkin em out..a guy close to the town i'm in now had em for sale.

i did however find a set of 35x12.50R17 KM2's that had about 75% tread left on all of them for $450 with NO patches..no rock rash..just straight road...guy said he wanted a set of street tires because his new job has him driving A LOT.

if i was ready for 35's i'd probably get them...but i'm nowhere near ready..i need some 5.29's or 5.71's first.

 

man i really dont think 35's will be bad with 4.56's and 5 speed!!! i know my swampers weigh way more than the km2's. i can still easily reach 70 to 75 with em and ima automatic to. the only thing is your milage wont be to great. im getting like 12 now buts thats with the swampers and auto. lol

 

I dunno if they're big enough for ya, or if you'd want the wheels or not. But. I have some 265/75R16 BFG Mud Terrain KM1 mounted on black Crager Soft 8's. Tires are basically brand new, less than 3000 miles. I haven't had them on the truck since Feb 2010. I'm running Revo's on my stock 5-star's right now, since I really am on pavement 98% of the time. I love the mud's, but I figure if I can get money out of them, I should just sell them. I'd want to sell the tires/wheels together though.

I have the firestone destinatin A/T on my truck.I use it on the 550 acre farm hunting,and working.In the three years with the tires on,I've never been stuck.Ice,snow,amd Mud up to the frame.Good mileage and no noise.

 

based on your criteria, i'd say Goodyear DuraTrac or Firestone Destination M/T would be a good choice. the GYs have the price of an AT tire, but the aggressiveness of an MT, also should last a while longer than an MT due to a tighter tread in the contact patch. Firestone usually has a buy 3 get one free deal if you get their credit card, they're a tad cheaper than other brands of MTs, they wear pretty good so i've been told by every person i've asked who's run them, they have great reviews for cleaning out mud and snow. both tires are in the wheel size you're looking at.

 

the firestone destinations are another one i've been considering here lately..i haven't even started to price them out yet though..my foreman has some 275/70R18s on his company truck and i know they are great in the mud, he's barreling down right of ways that are 2ft deep in nasty mud and clay lol.

Rims might have to wait and i might just get some 15" MT classics i found on the net just now, to keep the weight down.
There was a Blow Out around Pocasset (south of Oklahoma city) put 3 guys in the hospital, one guy is still in ICU i believe, so we might possibly be getting shut down for 2 weeks. if so then i won't be able to afford new tires AND rims.

if i can get the guy to sell me just the rims, then i also found a set of BRAND NEW Hankook Dynapro M/T's 33x12.50R15s for $700..and i could get them mounted for cheap.

i'm constantly back and forth on which tire to go with..which will serve me good..which will yield the best ride on the highway (noise doesn't bother me..but i don't want tires as loud as mud grapplers or swampers..lol) which one will gimmie the best miles..

i don't wanna spend $700-$1100 on tires and only get 25,000 out of them..if i'm going to buy tires..there gonna get 40,000 at least.
