What kind of weather do you experience?
What kind of terrain will you be using them on?

Ive heard the Mud grapplers are loud.
I like both of them, The BFGs have proved themselves but the Nittos look cool and from what I hear are pretty good off road.

BFG's are good tires. They have been designed to cancel out harmonics on the highway to reduce the noise. They wear good, and have great traction.
But, I guess since you don't offroad, you are building a "mall crawler" so the Nittos would look good on some dubs eh.

wcc 71 if u live in SC you should know about BUCKSHOT MUDDERS, I live in NC and go to Mrytle Beach and Sumter bout 4-5 times a year. Every 4wd truck i see has buckshot mudders, dont know if u guys down there just get them cheaper or what but they must be decent because alot of people run them. Plus they have a real aggressive look.

Why not just get a AT tire? The BFG m/t's are not very good in the rain (or snow). Other then that they are a great tire.

If you don't go off road, then how about an all terrain tire. It will be quieter, get better fuel economy and sounds like it would suit your needs far better than a mud tire. Or is it for looks?

The grapplers are gona be outrageously priced. Go with the BFG's. If you are looking to save money go with buckshots, they are cheap. If you are gona be going thru mud, dont get all terains. The AT's dont clean out at all and are as useful as some drag slicks here in SC.

If you're "probably not" gonna do much 'wheeling with it, then why do you need muds? The answer to that is the answer to your question:

looks - the Nitto. Definitely

anything else - the BFG, or better yet an all terrain. Even an "aggressive" AT like the Cooper STT2 or Goodyear MTR will be better than even the BFG on the road.

I run a tire store here in metter georgia. I have sold Way more nittos than bfgs. The nittos pull awesome and ride the same. The bfgs everybody is used to have changed to the new tread. They are starting to sell more and more though.

Buckshots are the absolute noisiest tires made. I think they actually build them to make more noise on purpose. Yes, they are great in mud, but hell, so are tractor tires. He said he does not offroad. I can understand (a little) why someone with a four wheel drive would want the aggressive look of a mud tire. Do you see "full show" 4x4's with big 'ol street tires? NO! And how the hell does a mud tire get worse gas mileage? Rolling resistance? What is that supposed to mean? Who is feeding this crap? C'mon.

all the energy to make that noise has to come from somewhere - the louder the tire, the more the rolling resistance (or vice versa, however you want to look at it)

I wouldn't compromise pavement performance and safety just to have a mud tire.

I recommend the Nittos since thye are much better behaved on pavement in the dry or wet than the BFGs and cost a fair amount less and off-road I've never encountered a situation where the BFGs were a clear cut winner but they probably have a slight edge in the dirt but on a DD the Nittos are a solid choice.

X - are you referring to the mud grappler or the terra grappler? Cuz mud grapplers are pricey and I would hardly consider the mud grappler "pavement friendly"

I kind of figured anyone who thought about it would figure out that a mud tire is heavier, and has more rolling resistance. Both of those factors will hurt your fuel economy. So before calling it crap, give those neurons a work out.

Or did the Prius hybrid come with a Interco Swamper option I'm not aware of?
