Aggressive AT tires

Wondering YT's opinion on some tire choices I'm considering for my 100-series Land Cruiser, which is used primarily as a DD and occasional weekend warrior in Tahoe.
Current rubber is 285/16 Goodyear Duratracs. I got them 1st year they hit the market and not many people had them, they proved to be a pretty good tire and everyone's got them so it seems. I've got 60,000 miles on them in a 5,500lb Land Cruiser - they could likely go further if it weren't for the funky tread wear and cupping, which I think is related to lack of tire rotations with worn out shocks (replaced).

Anyways, below are my current tire choices. Originally was set on the Toyos, but then I discovered the new Falken AT3 which I am really leaning toward....but that extra tire weight.....

Everyone likes pics, prices are off Amazon.

Goodyear Duratrac - 33.1" tall, 11.3" wide, 54lbs, 18/32", $255

Cooper ST MAXX -- 32.9" tall, 11.7" wide, 55lbs, $241/ea

Falken Wildpeak A/T3W -- 32.8" tall, 11.1" wide, 60.6lbs, $165/ea

Nitto Terra Grappler -- 32.7" tall, 11.4" wide, 53lbs, $190/ea

Toyo Open Country AT2 regular -- 32.8" tall, 11.3" wide, only 16.5/32" tread depth, 54lbs, $195/ea
Toyo Open Country AT2 xtreme -- 33.4" tall, 11.6" wide, 17.1/32" tread depth, 64lbs, $201/ea

Mickey Thompson extreme county looks pretty good and think Cooper makes a similar tire, I have a thing for tire treads. Have you tried balance beads yet? I'll never go back to wheel weights again on my truck tires. Might be time for shocks too.

seems like you had great luck with the Duratracs. I really wish i had bought those a few years ago instead of the Goodyear MT Kevlars.
Anyway, a guy at work put the Toyo Open Country AT extremes on his truck and really likes them. He pulls a trailer on the beach periodically and off road, he recommends them.

I'll never run a Goodyear tire ever. I've never known them to wear well. Not surprised they're cupped.

I've been using BFG KOs forever because i like their RWL and for no other reason. They wear slow, but good luck getting them balanced. I've had more balance issues than any tire, in multiple sizes. So i can't recommend those either. But they just redid them, KO2s are a new model. Maybe they're better? Maybe I'll just get BFG Long Trails since mine is daily driver on pavement too.

The Nittos I've heard good things, so I'm considering them next. Good luck with your selection.

I' think I'm going to order the Falkens this week. I'll look into tire beads - will the tire shop have them or do they only do weights? Going to Americas Tire.
I was originally planning to just get the Toyos and be done since they're a proven high quality tire, then I saw the new brand new Falken tire and it ruined my easy decision. I've got Toyo MTs on my pickup and love them (they're actually quieter than my cupped DTs!) everyone I know who's run a Toyo has praised them too. I saw Falken is a Japanese tire brand like Toyo is, never knew that before. I liked my Falkens on my corolla and havent seen anyone with the ATs around here, so why not be different? When I got my DTs nobody had them around here, now everyone seems to run them like the BFG AT, lol.
Also Falken runs much cheaper, locally the Falkens are $175 installed, Toyos are $215 installed

I had Falken Wildpeaks (Rock Mountain's are the exact same thing except they are sold exclusively by Discount Tire Direct at a cheaper price) on my 2005 Tundra and my 1983 Pickup. They are a great A/T tire for the daily driver that occasionally finds himself going offroad (snow, mud, sand etc...). Deep tread pattern, but very quiet on the road. The wear life is pretty good on them too - I had about 45,000 miles on them when I traded in my Tundra and they still had a good amount of life left. You need to keep them rotated about every 5,000 miles because they do tend to feather, but other than that I was extremely pleased with them. Can't beat the price either - by far the best bang for your buck amount all the A/T tires on the market!

Now I have to mention this... I loved my Wild Peak/Rocky Mountain A/T tires; HOWEVER, I just put a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my 2016 Tacoma and they blow the Falkens out of the water!! I just barely got done writing a review on them here:

Check that out the review. I would definitely add the Ridge Grapplers to your considerations!

Yesterday I ordered up the AT3Ws. Called America's Tire to order them and the guy was like "well if you pay for them today I can still get you in on last weekends Labor Day special and get $75 off..." SOLD Next cheapest tire was another $180 more, didn't know I could get some 33s for well under $1k anymore!
They'll be here in a few days, will update with pics. Going to keep the best looking DT as my spare...might be good to finally have a matching size spare, lol -- somehow got lucky on that one

They took a few days to get in, but they're on!
Put a few hundred miles on them already and we love how quiet the ride is once again!!! We all agree they're quieter than the duratracs were when new; almost as silent as the stock Michelin ATs that were one it for the previous two sets of tires. It drives completely different now too, I've never felt this much change in driving from a tire swap.
No more chattering your teeth out at speeds under 20mph, the 45+mph tire howl/drone is finally gone, seems to have WAY less rolling resistance and coasts like cazy to the point where it feels like you're accelerating and lastly the steering feels lighter. Thinking it all might be related to tire compound differences, I know those duratracs were fairly soft rubber. Th GY had zero tread warranty or expected lifespan, the Falken is a 55k. Haven't had the chance to test on anything but pavement but I expect good results, time will tell. Also, nobody else has these tires around here quite yet. All the shops I talked to about them hadn't really seen them so it's nice to be different again.

I would get the Toyo open country at II's or if you want a pretty good mt, check out the Mastercraft MXT's. Guys with 3/4 ton trucks have done well with them. Check them out
