It already has a place for a propane tank, why not a propane generator? They can be pretty quiet.

xxxtreme's suggestion would work if the generator has an electric start, it'd also be a great way to conserve fuel.

 

or i just run it during the day while i'm out wheeling, and use just battery at night. of course, i could just hook up the truck for a few mins, too. direct 12 volt charging!

i've been toying with the idea of trying to make my own "silent" muffler (not worrying about size). but just an idea. i'm sure one day i'll get around to it...

 

magn: propane generators are nice, but i have yet to see a quiet one, and they tend to be a bit expensive. the "quiet" ones they sell on ebay are louder at 20 feet than a car engine at 2 feet

 

Really? I know someone who has one and it's definitely significantly quieter than my gasoline gen. It's in an enclosure though and I'm sure that muffles a lot of the sound.

 

there's a bunch of stuff out there. i'm not going to spend any more money on the trailer until the roof is done, though. once it's good to go, i can start using it and seeing what all i need to get done to finalize it

 

You could always just build one of those DIY wind-generators, just need an old sign, some pvc pipe and the motor out of a treadmill. Have it charge the batteries while you drive to camp! If you run out of power and there's no wind, fear not! You can teach any small ones the fun fun game of "spin the windmill."

 

ha, maybe. right now i'm trying to find a supplier of 4x10 .032 sheet aluminum, to no avail. i might have to go 4x8 and make a longer piece. i just hope it doesn't leak

naw. it would cost about the same amount as the trailer, per sheet. so i'm going with 3 sheets of 4x8 foot. just one more seam. and i have someone looking at welding the frame up for me. if it's more than $200 to get it done, i'll just buy my own welder

so that means: the trailer will not be ready for rausch creek (or even the 4th). oh well... that just means i don't have to rush this

 

i found a guy willing to weld it up for ~$100. wooo!!!! that means camper by the end of the year

got a little more done on the trailer today. just cut the end pieces so i can get this thing welded up and get rid of the plastic. so hopefully by the end of summer, i should have a roof on. also, i ordered some new band saw blades to replace the broken one. that'll get me back on track.

one small setback, though: timing belt. my dad's elantra needs a new one, and he's hiring me to do the work on it (since he knows i can do that kind of thing now). so i'll be working on that for the next weekend plus a day or two. should go much easier than my chain, since i won't have to drain anything.

 

and another "update"-

sorry, no pictures this time around. I have the new saw blades in my possession to shape the last of the aluminum tube. as much as i dislike them, i'll be pop-riveting the sheet metal and moulding parts on, and glue in styrofoam (either the pink or blue stuff). that should make the structure a bit more rigid, and won't add un-necessary weight. lighting will be the project after this.

and my truck is on hold for a while. i have it where i like it, and there are no problems (knock on wood). this will be my main project for a while

heh, yep. so close i can smell it. or maybe that's just the aluminum dust ...

in any case, i'm glad i can finally send the pile of aluminum off to get welded, rivet the sheeting down, and attach all the trim pieces. after that, it's all the easy stuff, like wiring, insulation, and paint.
