4Runner Cargo box

So after a couple months wait time, I finally got around to starting on my camping box. After seeing Skyrat's, I decided to do his style with a couple of my own twists. I finished the box at 10" tall, which made my drawers finish about 7.5" deep. I used 24" drawer slides. I made the cubby a little different. I wanted to use mine for bedding only. So instead of putting the door on the top of the box, I put it on the front, so you can only access it when the seats are folded down. I am also going to make it form to the inside panels using more plywood and piano hinges. so I can still access those side areas behind the wheel wells for extra storage. All I have finished so far is the main box, drawers and cubby. Once I get the extension and side storage areas done, I will wrap the entire box in carpet and then I will be ready for

Lighting

Thanks guys. So I had the kids today and couldn't work on the box more. So while they took a nap, I decided that I needed some lighting added so I can see inside the drawers at night. I had picked up a couple of 2 led x 4 led lights a few days ago and figured I would have a little fun with them...... Didn't turn out quite as good as I had hoped, but I still like the end result..... These are wired into the rear dome switch. (only one side is pictured. I did another on the other side of the panel as well.)

When I get the carpet for the box, I am going to wrap the hatch panel as well.

I will try and post more pics once it gets dark and we can see how well they work.

Finally finished

So I was able to get the cargo box done. it came out pretty sweet. The main changes to Skyrat's design were the cubby door location, and having it form fit the interior of the cargo area. As far as a mattress, I found a 2"thick foam pad at Kohl's that fit perfectly inside. now it's just time to test it out.
