Today, the old Wagon Road, a 22 degree slope on the North face of Mt. Hood going to historic Cloud Cap Inn shown, elevation 6,000'. The glacier in the background is where three climbers perished last Winter. Only one has been found, the others were last heard from while digging a snow cave:

Thanks! The huge lodge, Timberline, is on the South flank and a 'must see' for my out of town guests. This lodge, Cloud Cap, pre-dates the other by about 70 years. The road up was originally hand-built by Chinese laborers who apparently didn't know about road design since it goes straight up instead of using switchbacks.

This plump feller or lady was up in a tree watching me as I was reading the new issue of 4WD Toyota Owner magazine on my deck.
I went inside and laced the handrail with some trailmix, and the squirrel began about a 20 minute long feast.
