I see. My diesel engine came without a turbo out of the factory and I've heard that because of this, the stock injector pump is limited in its adjustment - I dont think it has the pin to boost fuel with boost. I've got an ARB turbo added but it doesnt add a whole lot of power (its noticeable but not great) because no more fuel is being dumped in as the turbo begins to work its magic.
Do you need bigger/different injectors if you do this tuning?

Ya your problem is you don't have the aneroid pin with the diaphram on top of the pump because you did not have a turbo factory. Guys with older VWs that are none turbo convert theirs buy using the top half of the pump from a turbo car. I am not sure on what pump Toyota uses, maybe their own, but if you get a pump from a turbo engine and with the fuel enrichment in it you will see a HUGE difference.
You should be fine with your injectors but I would find the max fuel screw and make some adjustments. You will have a linear fuel delivery but you may find that you can get away with a lot more because you have the turbo. May smoke a bit until the turbo comes in though. You will be amazed what a little more fuel will do.

Yeah I did some checking and apparently you should add 10% more fuel for the turbo which ends up being half a turn of the max fuel screw - might be able to turn it more but then there are overheating issues. I'll try it out and see how I go.
I'm actually keeping an eye out at the moment for a 5L 3ltr diesel to swap in but I think my chances are slim of finding one cheap.

adapter...
Awesome swap, exactly what I would want for my truck...Any chance of you (or anyone else who has them) emailing the drawings of the adapter and pilot bushing? Like to show them to a friend who may be able to slip into his shop to be CNC'd...
Thanks
Thanks

You will like it much better. The swap is not that bad. The hardest part is drilling the hole for the master cyl. I used one of those stepped bits because it is a big hole. Let me know how you like the difference when you take it out.

Found my shake in the steering wheel. My front tires were trying to snow plow the road. I guess the idiot I bought the truck from doesn't know how to take the truck in for an alignment if you can't do it yourself.
I just did a home job (chalk and measuring tape) and now it is great. I have my safety and e-test done. Just have to get into the office and get a plate. Drove it to the e-test place and it drove awsome.. I think I am going to love it.
Here is the dash with my Pyro gauge on the left and the PSI on the right where the clock goes.
I added fenders for the MTO and painted the box.

Looks really sweet Flash... MTO/cops might want to see some mud flaps too I know the safety does'nt require it but I got a warning one time for having a missing flap... let us know how it goes when you register it, I'm curious how the little ladies in the office will react when you go through the custom engine swap thing with them...

The ladies in the office will have an easy time with it. They just change the G to a D on the card and it doesn't even cost anything. I did mine this winter and they had no problem with it. I can't wait to see your mileage numbers on that thing.

I got my plates today, no problems. I had everything I needed, so they just did the paperwork. Those fenders come down a lot so I am going to leave the flaps off. I ran this box on my 88 with no fenders and never had a problem. I never see the MTO here and all the cops want are speeders.
I am going to do some short trips around first and then start driving it to work. Work out any bugs and get some trust going. Once I start driving to work I will have some numbers. I do 120km a day for work so it won't take long.

Depends who's taking my money
What motor did you use? (I can't remember and will read the thread again to find out but I'm asking anyhow)
I'd like to use the 1.9 TDI from a newer car with an M-TDI pump to make it simple.
First step is buying a truck though.
Where about are you in Ontario, I'd love to check your truck out some time.

I am just south of Barrie in Alcona. I used the 1.9 IDI. The TDI with a mech pump would be a very good option. The pumps are not cheap though.
You are in canada so the 1.9 like I have is your best choice I think unless you want to go the TDI route. Any golf/jetta from 94-98 will have the IDI 1.9 in it. The Passat car did too put not sure of the years, maybe earlier like 91.

If you go back to page 7 I listed what you need to do to do this swap. Aside from the adapter plate and bushing everything else is custom made. The only thing you need from the doner car is the rad and expansion/fill tank thingy and fuel filter bracket.
Heed my warnings that I post thoughout the thread:
1. Move the trans and transfer case forward 1-2 inches will make this swap MUCH easier.
2. If you don't do number one, lower the engine as much as you can in the frame and you will need a 2-3 inch body lift.
3. Make an adapter for the back of the head coolent passage before you put the engine in. Have the coolent come out the side.
4. Get a VW alternator with a W terminal if you want to have a tach that works.
5. Mark the TDC of the engine on the front of the engine (belt pully and a pointer) when you have the trans still attached from the VW. The TDC on these engines is on the trans housing, not the block (dumbest thing I ever heard of).

Found the parts list.
I'm assuming I'd be best off buying a whole car from what I'm reading and then just ripping out what I need/want.
Do I have to use the VW rad and fans?
Hoping I can get away without a body lift.
