did you reserach the 1kd motor in toyota forklifts? did some calling round and a specialist said that some were equipted and some were already on diesel fuel, just couldnt give me any model numbers.

I KNOW WHAT IT SAYS! ...... "YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT... JUST FLY OVER AND GRAB ME!" hehehe. Sorry.... Anyway, great to see you're doing more and more research.... All the less I'll have to do, haha.
Best wishes on ALL this, RB!

You can gain nearly 2 inches of clearance by doing a 2" body lift and 2" drivetrain lift. That's if they make the 2" engine spacers for the 3.0. I know they do for the 22r.

Alright guys, I'll try to sum up the questions.
So far I've done a little searching for the 1kd in a lift-truck but haven't found any evidence the 1kd was used in them.
I already have a 2" body lift that everyone and their mother tells me to remove. Glad I don't listen to well. The 1kd is a bit taller then it's predecessor due to the top mounted intercooler. The body lift was put on for a few reasons and a drivetrain lift was one, but I may need the extra two inches for tmic clearance. The sump and pan switch will(read should) allow me to locate the engine in a more stock location. This is because the 1kz was available in the 2ndgen 4runners/surfs which share the same frame configuration in the engine area that my 1stgen does. And the 1kz and 1kd as, mentioned before, share the same block. the electrics are a different animal totally.
Now I need to start crossfeferenceing some part members between the two.
Thanks for tuning in I hope the information helps future swappers.

Aviator,
I already have a 2" body lift. Lifted my ever-low rock scrapping fuel-tank, was able to clock my t-case(without massaging the floor) and drive-train lift is on hold(was planned).
A BL of 2" seems to be mandatory because of the top mounted intercooler. however, a scoop is still needed to get air to the TMIC. If i go FMIC, i will need some custom plumbing, and find room in the front of the core support. There are pros & cons to both set-ups, but i want to keep the plumbing short and factory, therefore adding a hood scoop.
from what i've read, a 1kd cannot be swapped without a 2" body lift due to the height of the engine and TMIC even with a hood scoop. Not sure i have seen a powerdome hood for a Yota.

you could probably get slacker (corey @ toyotafiberglass) to build you a custom bulge hood or scoop. in an email conversation, he said:
we can do anything you want, all depends on your pocket book
#169
^^^I am most likely going to add a scoop to this hood, maybe eventually go with a fiberglass hood. I still have toyotafiberglass fenders to put on this beast, they are 2 years old now.

1KD should'nt need a lift... they put in them in runners running stock mounts... granted the model is different but the clearance heights should be almost the same... there's not that much difference between them... as for the hood you'd have to do one custom...
you could probably graft on a dome they sell for the muscle car crowd...

Send me links of someone putting a 1kd into a 1stGen Runner, because I haven't found one after months of scouring the interwebs.
Only second gen runners got the 1kz at the end of the production run. The 1kz-fte did not have an intercooler on top, like the 1kd. Every swap thread I have read says this engine fully dressed is atleast 40mm(1-9/16") taller.
Only the blocks are the same between the 1kd & 1kz.

less than 2" taller?! dude!... alls you need to does is graft on the "bulge" off an SC taco hood and you should be laughing... I think my mech may have already done something like that... I'll get back to you on it...
as fer them blocks if the 1kz/kd is the same they should drop right into an IFS set up with no issues at'all...

I am planning on ordering a KZ pan and sump pickup since the KD oilpan has a front sump and won't work with the older IFS i have.
I am looking forward to the scoop application, just need to find one that looks right, and does the job. Perhaps i will get a factory on from the LC i purchase....we'll see.

So the prices for the above listed LCs are before auction but on average still cheaper then buying from classifieds. So far.
Also learned that the hilux hasn't been offered( maybe built? ) in Japan since 2005 and the 1kd was never offered in the hilux only the surf with an auto Trans. So that narrows some search possibilities down.

Wow, exciting, man! Like hearing "Narrowing it down"
lol. Gonna be so sick! My buddy in Torrance, near me, just did a 3.4 swap into his SAS'd beast(anthony1 ??) .... Anyway, just hearing THAT made me excited for him, lol... But a turbo-diesel on the 'newer' end?? Woot! lol.

Prado is a 3 door LandCruiser actually.
I am continuing to scour the interwebs for a good deal/vehicle.
I'd like to look into buying a d4d from South America, but my searches for some type of dismantler are not returning results. I am not crazy about this idea, but i here folks take great care of their vehicles down there. Also, shipping should be cheaper...i guess.
I just want this damn thing ordered already. But, i need to be patient and find the 'right' donor for the right price.

and the new Hilux facelift for foreign(to us) markets is UGLY! That's right i said it, i know there are folks that like them, but i personally think the new ilk of Tacos in NA look waaaay better, i think they look better then the last gen. As for the LCs, yep they are UGLY also, and don't get me started on the new 4Runner(what a shame).
Of course these are my opinions. It just seems design is taking all the rugged build quality out of purpose designed vehicles to make them more disposable. Plastic bumpers on a truck...are you serious? just buy a car/wagon.

^^^ Those aren't just your opinions. I wholeheartedly agree. You'd think they made plastic bumpers to make them cheaper to replace. Wait, a new ARB costs less then the plastic one from the dealer. Nevermind.
