For that price why not just by an extra?

Wow. Would that price be the whole lc, the half cut, or just the engine?

The whole LC. I am hoping to purchase a whole vehicle, chop it and sell or trade back the spares to the dismantler to discount my purchase. However in this case, the dismantler said he will gain nothing if the vehicle is chopped. I doubt that, but perhaps not enough parts to make it worth the time to tear down. I am still learning the process and what is expected as i go.

Don't know why they would'nt ship to US... though you may have to arrange the shipping yourself...

Westjohns, yes i have tried Australia, thanks for the suggestion, and am watching for salvages/writeoffs/totals.

Brandon,
thanks for the link, it looks like they just sell engines and gearboxs. I will contact them, but in the meantime i'll search for some reviews on their engines.

Aviator,
I am in the process of working the shipping from Asia/Australia or Europe/UK with a freight broker as we speak. So far QLD, Australia to Baltimore port is around $1kUSD...that is shipping a halfcut at about 1000lbs.

thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming.

Roger,
I thought i did not have to pay VAT because i am outside the EU, i've ordered bike parts from Italy and do not recall having to pay, but that was a few years ago, so i could be wrong.

^^^ thanks Ian, that is not what i got back from the translator

just some information i found

http://www.car-emissions.com/cars/view/44068

2011 3.0 D4D(1KD-FTV) 3door Manual Landcruiser

Fuel Consumption US Gallons (miles per gallon)
Urban 24.23 MPG
Extra-Urban 33.14 MPG <<<< the 2005 model only reports 31.4mpg...only!
Combined 29.06 MPG<<<< the 2005 model only reports 26mpg

I think these are all-time AWD also, and it weighs 4740.75lbs.(dam, my truck is almost 1000lbs lighter!)

reference toyota.co.uk for some really cool videos, LC3 is available with under carraige cameras to see where your wheel is on rocks, this is a very expensive Toyota, but neat stuff.

I think you're right on the vat, but there are a few small legal requirements.
It may be required that export papers are needed, but I'm unsure if it's for a drivable car only. It may not be applicable on parts/engines.

Roger, I have a quote I got from FedEx I can upload, it's for delivery from Australia but should apply to the eu. The list of fees from the quote is extensive. Most of the fees are small but they all add up to about 1000$usd for a halfcut....ouch.

once you find the motor your in there basically, but finding the motor is going to take time, just wait and see there has to be atleast one stuipid driver over seas with a diesel toy. you will find it soon enough! how much do you have planned to spend on this build?

I'd like to stay under 5k but that's going to be a challenge. True, finding the right vehicle is taking the longest, but I'll keep searching patiently to find the best deal I can.

If I get a halfcut everything I need is included minus fabbing a cross member for the Trans and motor mount relocation. The there would be wiring. Ten freshen up before install. That's the plan. So that would be above purchase price. Not cheap, but saving me $1250+ a year on fuel.

Once you get it done I'm sure that you could start an import business and convince other people to swap over. This thread made me research the engine. Makes me want one real bad.

I can obviously see why they're not legal to sell in new cars here. Diesel uses less energy to make and with this engine gives you 50% better mileage. That obviously means that it doesn't burn clean enough to be tree hugger friendly.
