Im starting the same project, all your work will make my job so much easier, thanks. How did the engine fit length wise? My 87 pickup is pretty short. What kind of body lift do you have? Mine is all suspension, im a bit worried, my rollcage goes through everywhere.. bitch to change.

Did anyone else notice the electonic shock dampner adjusters in this photo:

Did the Australia trucks have these? It looks factory.

I have a Roger Brown 1" BL, but I plan to remove it. In my initial test fit, I was able to get it snug to the firewall and also had it pretty low in the engine bay. I will be custom fabricating the headers (making block huggers) and the lower oilpan will be modifed (or made from scratch) to clear the IFS (yes Steve, the IFS). From what I observed on my test fit, the way I'm mounting the 1UZ in mine will be perfect for 1st Gens since they don't have the height that I have in the engine bay (hood slopes more up front). Might need a BL, might not.

Most 1UZ's are front sump (LS400) or mid sump (SC400). I thought rear sump would work best to clear the steering - the oilpan and alum mounting ring for the 2UZ in the LX470/LC100 is rear sump and fits the 1UZ block (get the pickup tube also!). The guys running front sump have the motor pretty high in the engine bay - bad for 1st Gens (and for the COG IMO)

James - I think those are aftermarket adjustable shocks. Somewhere I did see they had factory electrically disconnecting swaybars in Australia. That would be too cool...

Is the 2UZ the better oil pan to use in IFS trucks? Is that what you are saying?

I'm not 100% on that yet, but with some tweaks to the bottom oilpan it allows the motor to get much lower in the engine bay than front sump - should negate the need for a bodylift and even leave enough room for a future SC.

The 2UZ oilpan is also much greater capacity than the 1UZ. Can you take a pic of your Tundra oilpan? I don't think they are all the same.

Hi Guys..Great project you have!! I just finished mine swapping a 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE) relacing the 3VZ-E 3.0L V6 on my 5Speed 4X4 X-Cab P/U. I'm done and it is a success story -I'm pleased to report!! search with my user name to see it "WINDANCER4X4"

Now, I wish to ask your assistance. I hear vibrations and I am doubting the front axle to be the cause. You will be surprised to know that I'm in Arabia and my truck is a US model bought from Arizona. The front axle is from a '98 prado to make the propeller shaft to driver side to mate with the t-case, while the donor vehicle was a 2003 Prado 4.0L V6 [I said that B4!!] with automatic tranney.Of couse we got the engine, ECU, wiring, 4in Lift from SuperLift [Nice one...Thanks] plus custome made Aluminum radiator from B-Cool [Thanks Marty] with A/T cooler.

As I said, the truck is running & drivable and it's testing stage -I wanna say- but there is some noise specially when turining right and left and some noticeable vibrations!!

I'm open to suggestion and I can show you many many pics..if you give me an e-mail and promise to aid me post them here.

Thanks guys windancer4x4@yahoo.com

Make a new thread with the above post. We'll help you there. You don't want your info buried in this thread (I don't either).

G'Day Cebby. I see you're still at it

Those shocks on Mudrunners are only on imported Japanese Surfs and are basically a factory 3 way adjustable, ie hard, normal and a soft setting etc but the shocks themselves are the usual Toy crap.

There are no Toy factory electric disconnects in Oz, but maybe you heard of the ones I fabbed up for my 4Runner

There is also post on here of my latest project

Dont waste your time with the dana crap, the toyota 6 cyl third with 4.88s will be just as strong...before anyone argues back- been there done that- the dana crap is just that C_R_A_P! why do you think drag racers use a ford 9 inch? the THIRD member is stronger!

Finally got a chance for a 2nd Fitting yesterday. Thought I'd post up some long overdue pics...

These first two are for SuperRunner (shows the speed sensors on the A341E and A340F)

The additional speed sensor the 1UZ ECU needs to see can be added easily to the A340F (since you need the input/planetary from an A341E which has the sensor tone ring on it already, it should be plug and play)

I pulled the exhaust manifolds off so I could get a better fitting this time around. This was a big improvement... A few shots for reference:

Passenger Side:

Is it just me, or does thing look like it's ALL MOTOR?

Driver Side:

Business End:

After numerous adjustments, I think this last shot is pretty close to where it will sit. I will have to modify the steel oilpan (may make from scratch - probably easier) - jury is out on the pickup tube for now though. I need to pull the aluminum ring off to mount up the pickup tube and then go for a 3rd fitting. This is close to the final position - shifted it over a little to the right and there was good spacing alll the way around.

Here's a guess at the oilpan mods. Might be more, might be less...

Clears the breather extension and ARB line perfectly. Although, I will likely raise it up some for breathing room.

Now that I got it tucked down nicely, the motor mounts will actually be pretty short now. I measured and it appears they will be roughly 2 1/2" to 3" off the stock 3VZ rubber mounts.

I am hoping to remove my 1" BL, but I'm still not sure that can happen yet. Going for low and planning to hack my fenders/footwells.

(like my shim?)

Did another trial fit of the oil filter mount. Framerail clearance is an issue.

On the left is the 1UZ filter on the right, the 3VZE. Neither of them make it.

Looks like a relocation or more of a block hugger mount is in order.

Not sure yet, but it appears that the stock steering stabilizer location can be reused. Might be tight with the beefy OME though.

I'm close on the motor mount design now. Gotta fab them up and the oilpan worked out so I can get that motor in there once and for all.

Hey - anybody know what will take the paint off that the junk yards use to tag their wares? Not wild about this being on the final product.

Thanks James.

No need on the pic - I went and bought a 2UZ pan and am planning to use it. That is what is pictured above. It clears the steering so the engine can be dropped lower. The only gripe is that the rear steel pan needs to be modified to fit around the pig on the passenger side and the front axle tube mount on the driver side. Depending on how low I can get it, I might also need to clearance an area across the pan to mimic the axle tube - and then shorten the pickup also. Sounds like alot of work, but it won't be too bad since I will have the flange/holes cut out on a waterjet so I can make the pan from scratch.
