1UZFE Swap humble beginings.

Sorry for the lack of updates, work has had me slammed with zero time for the project.
As for the question, yes the stock ECU can (and in most cases should be used). Stand alone is not needed but would be much easier (though I do not know what stand alone would work for this engine.)
As for the poster above this, I have no pics finished because I'm still rebuilding the engine. Once I have something done I will surely add some pictures.

Plenty of info on standalone ECU's on lextreme and other uk/kiwi boards. I actually found good info on race-dezert cause there's no reason to keep the stock ECU on a full buggy type build, or at least that was my assumption for the popularity over there.

No reason to upgrade to an aftermarket ECU unless you get rid of the distributors too.

Wish you were swapping a 3rd gen, but SUBSCRIBED!!!
It seems like the transmission/transfer case is the biggest hurdle before the actual build. From my research it seems like keeping the auto trans that comes with the 1uz is the best option since they love the ECU together. I've also heard that certain jeep applications work as well for transfer case (NP231 with their factory tranny mounts), but that may be for 3rd gen runners.
also, I ran across these a few days ago in case you hadn't seen them yet.

Slow as usual, between snow and rain (we don't usually get snow) I haven't really done anything. I have parts galore just nothing done =P. I will start tearing into the engine this weekend and getting it resealed. I had ideas to put new pistons and rods (stage 1 650HP rods and Ross 8.5:1 pistons for eventual boost) but I think I'm just gonna get this one running good NA and build another block for boost.
I have flipped back and forth between using the stock ECU and Harness or using a Megasquirt 2 setup and still have not decided. The issues I'm having is that I am eventually going to S/C the 1UZ and expect around 550 to 600 max HP, and will need better fuel management, Megasquirt takes care of this problem, but I got this engine, harness and ECU SOOOOO cheap that I feel as though I should use the stock ECU and harness just to stay on a budget for now. (~350-400$) I dunno and thoughts?
As for Fitment, I'm a ways away from that but it's def in the back of my mind.
I'll post some pics of the block and heads opened up this weekend. Hopefully I can get it all buttoned up within a few weeks (weather is supposed to be nicer) and I can start on fitment and get into the nickel and dime stage where it requires me to hemorrhage money.
Till then
-Cheers!

Has anyone had any experience with Xcessive Manufacturing? I found this flywheel service and it seems a good price. I can get a 3sgte flywheel for 41 bux from work.
I'm using the adapter from them as well (Wxx to 1uz bell).
The only thing I'm really worried about is the elongated holes, I'm not a fan of having flywheels bounce around in my cab like a saw blade.
Any thoughts?

When you said in the these the R151 wouldn't work, can you explain? I have a 3.0 5spd I was hoping to use. Still torn on 2uz or 1uz though. I also have an old gear drive t-case to match to a prospect tranny.
Thanks and good luck.

So there is no reason to not run the 3.0 flywheel. You can clock the flywheel and redrill the correct bolt pattern so precise machined holes for crank shaft bolts. Much safer that way. That's how I did it.
As for the R150 and 151. The bell housing from KS racing will fit both tranny's. I am on the hunt for a 151 when I can. If you got more questions, just ask. I have been running the 1uz and R150F for about 6 month and 5,000 miles now. It runs and drives great. No disappointments yet !!!
I have a total of about $125 into a surfaced and correctly drilled 1uz bolt patterned flywheel.

Which one?
Thanks for the reply.
How easy are the spark plugs to get at it in the 1UZ? I just changed mine in my 3VZE...... What a pain in the knuckles.

This is from KS racing on ebay. This is the one I ordered when I did mine.
Spark plugs are not bad, you just need a long extension to get the actual plugs out. Throttle body needs taken off. Other then that easy as they come up thru the heads rather than under them like the 3.0's.
I do have a lot of parts for the 1uz so if you need anything let me know. I got a maf, iacv, and a complete 95 SC400 engine. I pulled the bottom oil pan and such for my sas, but it is a good running engine and I am going to part it out unless it sells as a whole unit.

I know, old thread, but theres a lot of good info here.
Can anyone tell me....a 1uz from 90's LS400...can I bolt it up to a A340 from a 99 4Runner with drivers drop T-case? Will the wiring from the 1UZ wire up to the trans from the 4Runner?
Or can I use the auto trans from the LS400 and adapt the t-case from the 4Runner to it?
In the end, I need a drivers side drop t-case auto trans...whats the easiest way to get there? I've heard I can use a AW4 Jeep trans and NP231?
Going in a 89 Wrangler

This. you will also need the output piece of the 4runner's 4wd transmission to replace the 2wd output of the Lexus A340. It will also require you to cut the output shaft of the Lexus transmission to shorten it up.
