Ok well I was using cheap electronic calipers and my measurment of the old shim was wrong. so the new one I installed was not the right one , (now measureing .12 ) so I went and bought some better calipers and now ordered another shim , should be in tomorrow . O well what can I do ...
Thanks man! I will be making a build thread soon, i just havnt had alot of time..

I better go check my digital caliper now and compare it to another one because if its not right there will be some things i need to go over

Thanks for the link Yota 3.0 , cant wait to be able to go through the whole thing , Lots of pages..

Ok so I got the valve adjustment done today using a 3.20mm shim brought the lash down to .08. and wow what a difference one lousy valve can make n.. I think she has 400hp now no really what a difference she is so much quieter now..

I also took the top off the truck today for the first time ever. and I also went a picked up a 2uz so I can put it in my neighbors truck tomorrow.

Wait, what's going on with the 2UZ now?

That's funny we're all throwing engines around like nothing now. I just went up north to pick up a COMPLETE 3RZ WITH transmission and transfercase for $600. I need the drivetrain and my buddy needs the 3RZ for his long travel Tacoma. So whats the 2UZ going into?

Nothing special haha, My neighbor bought a 2001 tundra 2wd at an auction , the motor sounded really bad , valves ,pistons everything really bad.

He didnt really want to mess with that engine .
so I picked up this engine to put in the tundra , already done ,truck runs great , this engine had only 75,000 miles.

he ended up paying only $2800 for the truck after my cheap labor and the engine. Trucks in really good condition overall.
.
Actually hes going to upgrade my electrical panel and some wiring here at my house , really cheap also.

I got to keep the old 2uz free , may one day dive into it and tear it apart.

Tear that sucker down and do the 1uz hybrid engine with the 2uz. (2uz bottom with the 1uz top half) On Lexextremes they show how to do that. A little forced induction to go along with it.

I was thinking the same, but using the old 1uz aluminum block with the beefier rods and the 2uz heads . Dont know if this will work but Im going to look into it.

Lextreme here i come ..

Look at there shop they sell a long block. But ditch the rods and get the beefed up Lextremes ones. Thats my plan when everything is all said and done. Just for fun.

Ok so finally went to see the ref this morning , truck passed with no problem . The guys spent about 45 minutes looking thru the truck doing their tests to the engine , didnt ask me any questions , just put the sticker on the truck and sent me on my way .

I really thought they were going to say something about my exhaust but they said nothing. so what you see in this thread is exactly what was done and nothing more or less.

one thing they told me was to stay away from 96 + engines because that was a totaly different game .
.
It also cost me nothing to do this . I didnt have to smog it either .

Why didn't you have to smog it. I passed smog 2nd time, I installed a new cat and adjusted timing.
