wire for the starter

along with my 3.4 swap, I'm also swapping out the auto trany for a manual trany. seeing how there is no starter relay for me to splice in the wire for the starter, where do I splice in the wire for the starter now? my rig is a 1991 4runner.

The OE starter relays are kinda stupid anyway...they're not wired to actually benefit from having a relay.

Is there a large black, Black/white or white wire in one of larger of the body connecters? This should be the start circuit.

I cut wire about 6 inches from the engine side connector and tied in the STA signal to the ECM as well as the wire to the starter.

Ron- not to hijack your thread, but would you (or anyone else) the answer to this:

I've got ORS's wiring harness for an 3.4 conversion into an 22R (not RE) equipped vehicle. I have no starter wire in my ORS harness.. what exactly is this for? I'd ask them.. but cant for obvious reasons. It is mentioned several times in their instructions (which are for 3.0 vehicles)..

The starter itself IS wired up through the engine harness to the ECU and has all the ignition wires, etc... and the harness seems to be complete otherwise..your thread just got me thinking is all. (this is for a manual transmission, btw)

Thanks

I imagine it's for cold start enrichment and so the computer uses a different "start map".

You should have a black-white going to the ECM from the starter hot circuit.

I'm not sure, the 3.4 swap I did in my 87 4runner that had a 22re in it was with a ors harness and it had a wire that needed to be hooked up to the starter.

With my 3.4 swap I'm just goings from STA on the ECM and sending a wire to the B-W wire from the starter. Granted mine is a 93 man. from a 2001 man. So I don't have to worry about the transmission issue.

My last post didn't go through..so..

Does this starter wire deal with those doing a manual swap in an auto, or visa virsa?? Mine is a manual to manual? Otherwise, what does this starter wire do that isn't being done by the stock engine harness??

Ron- where is your starter wire located on the harness?

has to do with auto to manual swap, there is no starter relay in trucks and 4runners that came with a auto trany. so instead of splicing in at the relay, you just splice the starter wire that is part of the alternator sub harness for the 3.4 the black with a white strip, in before the IH1 connector on the body harness. black wire, pin location 15.
