Quick update on this:
1200 miles so far and a few trail runs. Last weekend I had a blast running a trail called "Liberty" in Penrose, CO. There is no way I could have done this trail with my old engine. The carb would have been stalling out, and something probably would have broke either on the trail or on the highway, since it is about 3.5 - 4 hours from my house. I have to say it's pretty amazing to crawl rocks all day with no problems...then get on the highway and do 80 up steep hills...WITH NO PROBLEMS! That was just completely unheard of for Doris previously.

I still have some little things to do from now until probably next March until it's all totally done. Today I replaced the starter contacts. I was getting the "Click. Click. Click....Click...Click" problem before it started. Now it's all fixed for only $20. I also finally hung my exhaust correctly with rubber isolators instead of the bailing wire I was using somewhat temporarily... Unfortunately, I was too late to replace it because I had to replace my flex pipe that broke from the bailing wire loosening up. I rednecked it a little still... I didn't have any hooks, so I cut up a u-bolt and made some instead. But I don't really see anything wrong with that?

Anyway here are some pics and video from my last trail run. There were some much cooler obstacles on this trail, but we just kept moving and only remembered the camera at the beginning and the end.

Very nice truck. I love the 1st Gens.

Great job on the swap. I've always wanted to build a 1st gen with a 3.4.

That's correct, I did put in an auto. I wasn't sure how well that would work out, but I have grown to like it. Given the choice, I would have still done a 5 speed though. The thing is, if your donor was originally an automatic it's going to make your life a lot more simple to stick with automatic. Changing that will require switching the ECU and engine harness to one from a manual trans. And then you have to hope that your new engine harness and ECU will work correctly with you MAF, ignitor, TPS, etc. as the wiring to those was changed around from year to year. If you check around here, there is a way to run a manual and keep the existing automatic ECU. It involves tricking the ECU into thinking you're always in neutral. But it seems like there were a few check engine lights, and in general it doesn't look like something I want to do, personally.

For wiring diagrams, go to https://techinfo.toyota.com/. They will charge you like $15 for a 2 day pass. During that time, go in and download anything and everything you possibly can . These diagrams are 100% accurate and easy to read in my experience. Toyota changed wiring around so much on the 3.4 that something like a Chilton's manual is very likely to be wrong. So when I started my swap, it was strongly recommended to me to go ahead and pay the $15, and I would say that was a good call. For the diagrams on the 1980 end, Chilton's is close enough. There's a few discrepancies here and there, but nothing that can't be worked out because it is far more simple than ECU wiring.

Can't wait to see your build! Let me know how I can help.

Can I ask how you did your fuel pump exactly? I am doing a 3rz swap into a '84 22R and I don't have access to a 22re tank assembly. I have an external Walbro pump and I know how to wire it, I was just wondering about fuel lines... Did you install fuel injection soft lines or hard lines?
