Questions for 98+ swaps

Going to help a local guy complete his swap into his Runner. He has a 96 Runner motor but no manual harness and no manual ECM.

My plan is to use the auto harness that he already has and just repin everything and pick up a 98 manual ECM since the 96 auto plugs should go into the 98 manual ECM.

Anyway, after comparing the EWD's of the 96 and 98 Runners (avoiding Tacomas since they use EGR's). I notice two differences.

1. The 98 has a pin on the ECM for a PSW (power steering switch-pinA31). I assume that this is for the PS idleup. My 97 motor uses a vacuum switch so I assume the 98 uses a electrical switch to control the idleup. Is this mounted on the pump as I have never really looked at a 98+pump, anyone have a picture of theirs I can peek at.

2. The TPS seem to have different ranges. However, both appear to be 3 wire.

The 98 EWD list this:
T2 THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
1−2 : 2.5−5 kΩ

While the 96-97 lists this:
T 2 THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
1−2 : 5−5 KΩ

The 96-97 TPS range doesn't make any sense to me. Wonder if that is a misprint or am I ignorant on this

Any way you could take a picture of your power steering pump and email it to me. The back side of it. There should be a switch with either vacuum lines or electrical connections to it.

well.. here's an idea. have the owner pickup a tps and pwr str pump to match the ecu. Having said that. I do not have the idle up valve on my pwr str and I haven't really noticed but mine is a five speed so I am the idle up.

I should also add that he will need the o2's for the 98 as I believe they changed to wide band around there. In general the rest of computer controls need to match the computer, even if you repin.

The pumps are the same, idle-up valves are different (electric vs vacuum) but still screw into the PS high pressure line.

Ya, that's what I am planing but wanted to check in here and make sure that the group agreed that was the best thing to do.

This I did not know. thanks
So there is an electrical switch on the pump in the place of where the vacuum switch is on my 97 for example. I was thinking that it may use the same vacuum switch but have an external VSV from the ECM to operate it. Just want to have an idea of what I am looking for when I start hunting for parts.

I am starting to think that simply finding a set of manual plugs is going to be the easiest thing though if I am into changing O2 sensors, pump, and the TPS.

I used a 97 auto harness, repined it to a 98 mt specs b/c in 98 both used the same plugs. I have an II3 and II1 female plugs, with pins and wires if you want them.
