My old 3.0 was exactly the same. I'll let you know how the sender works on the new 3.4 once I've checked it.

For some reason, my original gauge never worked, even with the 3.0 sender. I got nothing and I tried running a lead from the sender to the gauge, so I installed an Autometer gauge and said to hell with it.

My oil pressure gauge was bad. I replaced it with a OEM Toyota and all is good now.

Thats normal. My gauge registers closer to the high end of the scale at start up but drops closer to the lower end at idle when the oil warms up. I rebuilt my engine so oil pressure will register higher.

I checked the oil pressure today while I was taking it to the muffler shop and it was sitting right in the middle where it is supposed to be. I think the pressure sending unit from my 3.0 was new but I haven't had a chance to check it once the system was warm due to the lack of exhaust. I'll get back to you on this one.

I'll be at the muffler shop today, for the third time. Hopefully you'll be sent to a BAR station with a cool referee and you won't have to experience what I'm going through. What city do you live in?

I up in the Bay Area. I liked the place I took it to but I'm a little concerned about the amount of time it's taking. I'm worried they are going to be $$ Uuugh.

I've been to the muffler shop three times so far because of my battle with the referees and my exhaust configuration. Way to much money so far. Today they got the OEM 4Runner cat installed and the exhaust on the passenger side. Thursday is another appointment with a referee and I hope this is it.

Well I drove it from the muffler shop and it cost a bit mor then I was hoping. The stupid power steering pump threw the pulley so I had to cut the belt and drive it w/o PS. Oh well I got to drive it. Really nice. Sounds good and feels tight. Needs some adjustments but one thing I noticed was that the oil pressure was dropping down to or below the lower limit once it got warmed up. Seems to have good oil pressure. I wonder if it's just the sender or the gauge?
