how do I identify what year/run from the numbers on the ecu???

I have a ecu and harness that is supposedly out of a 99 taco...but need to know for sure so I can get the correct wiring diagrams for my swap.

Im wondering how to find out by the numbers on the ecu. mine says;

toyota 89661 04450

theres also TN 175200-2111

I know ive seen some way to identify it but I cannot find it...anyone???

Last I checked, the dealer cant tell you the year from the part numbers. You need the vin. Best bet is to just get a 99 EWD and see if you can match up everything on the wiring diagram to the ecu and harness. To be safe you can verify with a different year like a 98 or 97 or a 2000 to make sure that something is different before you start tearing into it.

Good luck.

yeah, the 99 diagrams seem to only partially match but I might just be a dummy. I can find the Ik1 that is the engine/cowl wire that I need to be splicing (i think), but the actual ecu plugs are no where to be found on the ewd diagrams. Im not all the way sure that the ik1 is correct as there are two plugs that are the same on the ewd...and since i didnt pull the 99 taco garbage i dont know where that plug was located to match it...im guessing under the left kick panel.

I just got the vin from the used toyota parts who sold it to me. guess ill try the dealer but they dont like to help that much ive noticed. i tried to get service records on the engine i bought that looked like there was head work done recently on it with only 68K. I figured if someone had a gasket replaced and maybe some valve work done i would be pretty happy. had 180 psi in all cylinders! But no...they dont give out info on engines that came out of wrecked vehicles that are no longer registered to anyone...

correction for reference: its the ik2 block that needs to be spliced. the e6 e7 e8 are the ecu plugs.

whew...its starting to come together.

According to the Toyota parts catalogue, #89661-04451 comes back as a 1999 5VZ 4WD M/T. That's the closest I could find to your number.
