Talking Headers and Dual Exhaust

Tried searching this forum section only and found hits on headers and dual exhaust but never anything substantial.

I have my headers but looking to run true dual exhaust if possible but wondering about back pressure, flow streams etc and if it is feasible without making the engine run like crap.

What are the realistic options here?

This is a 2WD 3.4 swap so I have the room easily just don't want it to be more trouble than it is worth.

Are you saying the 2wd has room for a passenger side pipe to snake through? Also, would you need an o2 sensor on each pipe if you didn't have a 2 into 1 system, and does the ECM allow for that? Uncharted territory, man.

I'm pretty sure that O2 sensors have to close to the hotter gases of the exhaust to function properly, since they need the heat. A crossover might put them too far away.

From searching around on the net, I see that a number or production vehicles only had an o2 sensor in one of the downstream manifolds pipes. Doesn't seem very sound to me, but guess it's not unheard of.

true duals would mean dual cats and o2's on at least one cat pre and post. Thats assuming both banks are gonna be running the same. I wouldn't go any bigger than 2" for the pipes. Its only 3.4 liters.

So do you think the motor would run right and not throw codes Vitaly?

I already got the headers and the room to run everything on a 2WD.

If there is some type of eliminator 02 sensor that could trick the ecm to think its getting the right voltage...then skip the cats and do a y crossover back to whatever mufflers

Greg,

Headers to a Y pipe crossover then cat muffler and dual tail pipes?

Any issues?

No dual pipes, just a single out the back, but i could have run 2 no problem. Just have to snake them around the traction bar / rear shocks. I'm also likely going to rotate the muffler 90 degrees and tuck it up some more.

The cat i used is just behind the v-band flange (infront of the muffler) it's a "spun" cat

(they also make an OBD2 one, but i am running a rear o2 simulator... here is the OBD2 cat http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...1022_1063_1326 )

I like these cats because they don't have anything to get hung up on, and the junkie looking to steal your cat wouldn't even know what it is...
