Cadman and syber kowboy obviously havent read the thread and neither have you as one of the people that knows the most about the 3.4 A340H swap. It is perfectly workable and shifts Just fine. if you dont want to have an error code (the only down side of using A340H with the tacoma or 4runner 3.4s) USE a 3.4 and ECU out of an automatic T100. the only reason you recieve an error code on the tacoma or 4runner 3.4 ecus is because they are looking for a differnt type of signal from the #2 speed sensor. if you use a T100 Ecu it wants the same signal that the A340H (YOUR TRANS) already outputs.

And another note about 3 years ago when i swaped my truck i reviewed the pics of what TEAM POINT did. They COMPLETLY disassembled the A340Hs in there 4runners and rebuilt them. Bored out the sensor hole and spaced it to work like the A340F they USED speed sensors out of A340F's and the relecator ring out of an A340f and machined things to work together.
Now the only way this route even seems like its something thats affordable to me because of the time involved is if you were already going to rebuild the A340H and did this at the same time. AND if you knew and could do it yourself

Actually we both live in the great state of Californy and can't have our ECU throwing codes because the VSS sensor is not delivering the correct pulse.
NOTE TO the fallman: I have read the thread. A few times. It was one of those rays of hope I had when I started this whole swap business but because I can't have a check engine light on all the time it wasn't a viable option. Way to be a prick about it!

The problems you are freaking out about are when you try to use the old A340H tranny.
To do it with as little drama as possible you will want to get an A340F that came behind a Tacoma, 3rd gen+ 4Runner or T100. I believe the advantage of the T100 tranny is the tc is a right side output, probably mentioned somewhere in this thread. To use the tranny from a Tacoma or 4RNR you need a gear driven tc along with an adapter (Inchworm, Marlib Crawler) to mount it to the tranny.
Yes, you will have to spend some more money but "engine swap" and "low budget" don't fit very wel together.

Well thanks I have some options now and will check in to finding a ECU out of a T100 is there a year I should be looking for? What ever happened wit the guy that was going to copy the roms? I read the whole Thread but didnt know what final solution was till now thanks for clarifing... oh again what year ? I work at a sawmill where I am the relief machinist and primarly Millwright so the machine work looks interesting too, but I think I will go with your way geting a t100 ecu...

As some one that has converted to a T100 tranny the only advantage of it over the A340H is that it has a manual tranfercase that stays locked when the truck is off. otherwise there is no reason to buy a t100 trans just use the A340H.
My swap started as a 3.4 A340H and spent a 1 1/2 years that way then was converted to a 3.4 T100 Swap.
its a hole lot cheaper to find a T100 ecu and harness then it is to find a to buy a 340F and then find a tranfer case and then find a adapter and then get all that set up. the only time that makes since is if your going to go with dual transfercases.
I just did a search on http://www.car-part.com and i came up 6 ecu's in the northwest and 42 nationally. of which the most expensive was 350 and the cheapest was 75 and there was 7 of the cheapest. SO seriously i wasnt trying to be a prick i just get frustrated when people dont do there homework and then try to spout information that isnt correct because they havent done the homework. I was the 3rd A340H Swap done as far as i know and set off the chain of swaps after that with A340H's
BTW i went thru smog in Denver which i assume is very similar to Cali. And passed just fine with the check light. they didnt say a work and i mentioned it to them and they said doesnt matter as long as the results come in clean. now i know things maybe differnt. but they tested that truck as if it still had a 3.0 in it NO electronich hook up to the obd port. said it was the cleanest running toyota of that model they had ever seen

There is a reason that ORS changed there tune about A340H swaps shortly after i wrote that it was possible and drove into there shop and showed them how.

i believe 95 96 and 97 are safe im not exactly if or when they switched to a differnt speed sensor the easy way to find out is if the complete vehicle is there pull the speed sensor on the trans. there are pictures posted of what the A340F and A340H and T100 Sensors look like.
if i remember right they didnt change the sensor ever and was the same throughout the production of the 3.4 T100's
but that is something i am not positive on because i have not looked at all the wiring diagrams or transmissions.

No your right i didnt know he was using the 2002 3.4, Its alot differnt electronically. But mechanically not so much. Its just a matter, really of swapping the wiring harness and Throttle body (maybe a few vsv's). You can find wiring harness's on Car-part as well. Im pretty sure with out swaping your harnes since it is drive by wire, and throttle body to a cable one that, you wont beable to use a T100 ECU with your setup. Its going to be a toss up which route is cheaper for you at this point. Switching all the electronics to a earlier model T100 or Getting a Trans and Tranfercase and Adapter. if your going to go Adapter route id order the thing ASAP. from what ive heard it takes awhile to get them sometimes.

I just want to apologize for getting testy. I understand the general situation and you are right that I do not completely understand the differences. I personally had a hard time finding a T100 auto 4x4 ECU and harness for post 97 but that was just me.
Millwrightbrian, I can confirm that the drive axles for the front are the same with either transmission (340H or T100). In the rear my 4runner was the same, but for a truck I think they have a 2-piece axle and I think they work the interchangeably but I'm not sure.

I had to get a shorter rear drive axle for my T100 Convert it moved the rear output back 2 inches. i made the orginal fit but it dint have any slip in the slip yoke. So i used one off of a W56 Xcab truck i think.

Ok i will begin my search for a T100 TB, ecu, and wiring harness. Wow... thanks for the info now rather then after I started the wiring. I think this route will end up being cheaper. I would love to just find a 2002 trans but tc is on wrong side right or wrong. I need a passenger side output shaft or can I put some adaptor on a 2002 trans to make it a passenger side output "Probaley big bucks though". You guys have laid the options out for me and I appreciate your help.

Yeah you remove the 2002 transfer case and put on a pre-95 4cyl gear-driven transfer case with a special adapter from Marlin (maybe Inchworm has them too) The gear driven transfer case is the strongest anyway, that's why Marlin makes the adapter for them, everyone wants them.

I just went to the SAS form and relized how stupid one of my ideas was... I am so pissed off right now I cant believe I have to go buy all the crap I have to go buy i was told when buy it this would all work... Have you considered going to a manual transmission. I'm not sure it's the right answer for you but it might be. That way you can use your motor and just get a manual harness and ECU for an 03. You'd have to find a manual transmission for a second gen but it might be cheaper. I've seen manual transmission sell here in the bay area for less then $500 in really good shape. Don't know about old hang town but you can find something in Sac.
