How do I send you photos ? I have a Iphone and can send photos to your phone. This what I have a .... 96 T100 4x4 5 Speed came with ECU and everything but the motor and harness. I bought a motor out of a 97 4Runner auto 4x4 with harness and ECU. I have all ready swap the auto to manual by taking the flex plate off and replacing with flywheel and clutch system and oil pan swap, installed and bolted up. But the damn wiring.
Yeah. Send them to the shop at 9257264257 or josh@cjsgarage.net. I need photos of the connector ends at the body side and computer side of the harness. I also need photos of the computer connections of the computer you intend to use
Goat:
I was thinking of trying to get/make some sort of siginal generator to do what I need. I need to get the 4runner from my Wife and check the siginal with a labscope to be sure of what i'm dealing with. I really only know what the manual says and what i can physically see.
BAMF:
Turning off the CEL is ok, I'd like to know when I have another problem if it occurs (even more because I'm not the primary driver of this vehicle). 2nd, that speed sensor might work with people who already don't have a electronic speed sensor. I know the factory one will not work. The VSS creates a digital wave form that the ECU doesn't like to see for the tranny speed sensor. A AC wave form is needed not a square (digital).
One thing I'm going to try (and talked about with fallman) is using the driveshaft bolts as the pickup for the sensor. Mounting the factory A340f sensor (magnetic pickup) next to a revolving ferrious metal (driveshaft bolts) should generate an AC waveform. Also there are 4 bolts (4 pulse per revolution). The output shaft speed is the same as the driveshaft in all cases except in low range, I have no clue what it would do to shifting.
Fallman:
The ABS sensor might work or be close enough. The only problem is (in my case with 4.56 gears) it would see 11 pulses per revolution.
BTW if you have no speed sensor siginal (front or rear) it will not shift out of 1st gear.
did you ever try the sensor picking up from driveshaft bolts?

just found post that you did, sorry, but it should work if I weld small pieces of metal to flange and a sturdy mount for a correct style sensor right? Cant afford a T100 ecm, 98 4runner engine/ecm in an early 95 3.slow runner(a340h)
It hasn't been done to my knowledge and mine was a 98 3.4l auto in front of the a340h trans and I always has issues with the ecu comunicating with the trans (would hunt between 3rd and lockup all the time)
ecu speaks digitally.
trans analog.
you would have to find out the values of the a340h and get a analog to digital converter and cross your fingers.
Having a 3.4 swap done right now and ran into one issue.
Vehicle is an 89 pickup auto 4x4 with 3.0
Donor was 2002 tundra 3.4 2wd auto
ORS says that you want to use a T100 ECU to avoid issue, so that is what we did.
The mechanic did all the wiring, no ORS harness at all.
All wires are connected and everything works except 2 things...below is the message from the mechanic.
"Your model year happens to be a hydraulic controlled t-case, so those two last wires (S4 & ECT PWR) directly connects into the ECU…S4 & PWR for ect is not present on t-100’s ECU so i’m stumped!"
“Notice the schematics shown for the 02 tundra and 96 t-100..
pwr (for ECT) and s4 connections are not present on both ECU’s”
So it drives and shifts fine, but wont go into 4th gear/ OD. AND...I guess the ECT things doesn't work...dont really care about that though.
Any advice...how to get an auto transmission to shift into 4th gear?
The issue is that you need an digital signal from the speed sensor.
The a340h uses an analog speed sensor and the a340f a digital one, without the right signal the trans will either hunt in and out of lockup or it just won't lock at all.
that 4th gear is just the torque converter locking up.
nobody has found a way around it as the toyota ecu's are locked out.
a340f swap or t100 ecu swap.

We are using a T100 ECU and it’s shifting just fine from 1-3 gear. I mentioned this in my post. The issue is the S4 wire from the original transmission has nowhere to connect too, since there is no S4 labeled on the t100 ECU or the tundra wire harness according to the schematics.
